Question about minor races

Sorry Theophilus, this thread just seems to have developed split ends.

Here is a thought...maybe the Ancients were onto something and detected something within the makeup of what would become the major races that would lead to an Ascendance akin to what the Droyne achieved in their Ancient period. And, this was done as the Ancients sampled each of the intelligent races of the galaxy.

Could it be linked back to psionics - no lots of minor races are psionic?
Could it be technological? Lots of races achieve great feats in technology with/without the help the major races depicted on the coyns?

Therefore, Marc et al. being fans of Golden Age SF the answer must lie within there. And, the only answer then seems reasonable from my knowledge of the genre is psychological. There must have been psychological traits that all proto-races exhibit. Otherwise, we must look to the soft sciences or what Marc calls the Social Sciences to find the answer.

There are further peculiarities around the co-development of the coynes and the major races. The Ancients were active throughout the whole of the Milky Way. We can expect to find Droyne spread further and wider than any other reace. It seems odd in that context that the six most significant races should have their home worlds so close together. I guess it could make sense, even if the conclusions read rather darkly for the rest of the galaxy.

Another one of my fatuous theories. The development of the coynes was part of an extended consultation exercise. The Droyne indicated that they preferred 'doggies', 'horsies' and 'kitties', so that is what they were given. Maybe it was an attempt to overcome their hopeless disinterest in the wider world.

Reading the Mongoose (excellent) Aslan book, I found this interesting tidbit under "CONTACT WITH OTHER RACES" (page 62):

I know the Ulane appeared in Traveller's Digest 17. I have to wonder if the Z'kr are just renamed Ormine, which also appeared in TD17.

Based on the Text, I would say no the Ormine are not the Z'kr. DGP's Rats and Cats places the Gerontocracy of Ormine in Akhlare Subsector, outside Aslan Space and says that "Ormine retain their rule by elders, but those elders usually have a human advisor". Since the Z'kr are referenced as part of the Aslan Heirate, and The Ormine are a Solomani Client I'd say they are Not the Same race.

Grabbed Gurps Alien Races 4 off Ebay cheap. Found a reference to the race that shared the Tezcat homeworld, and was eradicated by the Tezcat.

I'm slowly working on the list as time allows, (ain't spring great) I'll probably divide it up into segment, by area, and list extint races seperately.
