Question about AutoMachines...

Spinward Scout

SOC-14 5K
I've heard of AutoDocs and variations on the design, but has anyone come up with an AutoMech or AutoTech that can repair starship components? And where would I find stats for an AutoDoc (or AutoMech/Tech for that matter)?

Later,

Scout

P.S. It's taken me about, say, 25 years or so to find out that TDX stands for Two-Dimensional eXplosive, so you'll have to excuse my slowness. hehehe

Do you mean:
Scutters, DRDs, and StarMech Droids?

or Item Repair Kiosk? (toss broken item in one side, insert Credits, pick up fixed item on other side)

Hello Dameon Toth Detached Scout,

The specifications for the T20 version of an AutoDoc can be found spanning columns 1 and 2 at the bottom of p. 217.

GURPS Ultra-Tech Volume 1 2nd Edition Revised has 3 similar items:

</font>
  • 1. AutoMedic (TL 9+) on p. 94 top of column 2.</font>
  • 2. Micromed (TL 11+) p. 95 middle of column 2. This is a portable version of the AutoMedic.</font>
  • 3. Chrysalis Machine (TL 13+) p. 96 top of column 2. This device is also described in GURPS: Space 3rd Edition at the bottom of p. 91.</font>
TNE: Core Rules book GDW: 0300 Mark I, Mod 1 (December 1993) p. 333 column 2 last entry.

I am not sure about the other devices, but if I find something I'll post the information.

I guess what I'm looking for is something that can take a starship component (let's say a sensor) put it in a "box" the box analyzes it tells you what's wrong with it, and the fixes it if you ask. Just like the AutoDoc works with people, I guess. I don't know what a Scutter or DRD is and I take it a StarMech Droid is like R2-D2 from Star Wars (where would I find those items?). I think it's like an Item Repair Kiosk, but I was thinking more for use by a starship engineer - no need for Credits, except to buy new material. Time to dig out my GURPS books, I think.

Thanks!

Scout

Challenge 28 has a write up of a K'kree faimly merchant ship that uses 5 robots for maintenance (K'kree being very uncomfortable in enclosed spaces, such as the lower engineering deck of the ship). One master robot and 4 slave robots handle all in flight maintenance.
