Posting CD Rom Excerpts

What's kosher with cutting & pasting "parts" of an excerpt from the CD Roms (both this BBS and others like the SJG BBS) ?

I feel a short para or description isn't too bad, but at the same time it's not my material to bandy about, so...

For instance I've posted the description of the Gauss Rifle from Book 4 since it's one of those awesome bits of Traveller; and there's a recent post here about "What's a Dense Atmosphere Feel Like" and my first thought was to search the Exotic Atmosphere PDF for it, but I decided to feel out the TPTB first and not go overboard.

A short bit for discussion purposes (to prove a point, ask a question, etc.) falls under fair use, per the USCTO.

If it looks like posting excerpts for the sole purpose of putting the rules on-line, I'll issue an instant infraction for each such post...

It's no different that typing it in by hand for that purpose, and there have been plenty of 1-2 paragraph quotes of rules on COTI...

Of course, Hunter has the final say for this board.

It probably falls under FFE's fair use, but understand it's still a judgment call for the mods. I can't find a link to FFE's fair use page right now, so go by our own (it's essentially the same).
