Most of us run a loose, core subset of the rules as written.
So, let's make sure that's what shows up first, and put the extra bric-a-brac in a special section. I suggest a reorganization of the personal combat chapter in T5.09, to wit:
(a) move the (two) setup steps to the front.
(b) prioritize the elements of the attack task, putting advanced considerations behind the essential bits.
Elements in BLUE are the most likely to be accepted.
Personal Combat T5.09 (pp177+).
p178: Move "Tactics" (p180) and "WHO GOES FIRST?" (p182) to a new "SETUP" section, in front of "THE COMBAT PROCESS".
p178: Create a new "DECISION PHASE" (or similar) section, in between SETUP and THE COMBAT PROCESS, which explains that the character may do one of the three mutually exclusive actions available during a combat round:
- Total Concealment (e.g. choosing a Concealment of -5 for a human-sized character) - cannot attack or be attacked
- "Cover (Cover Me!)"
- ATTACK!
p179: Move "HITS AGAINST CHARACTERS" (p181) into the "Inflict Damage" section.
p179: Add Attack Task synopses (per p185) into "ATTACK! IS A TASK", in between the title and before the first paragraph. Show them to me first, then describe them.
p179: Create a new section called "ATTACK TASK CONSIDERATIONS" to contain Speed Mods, Target Size, Crouching/Prone, Evasion, Cover and Concealment, Cover (Suppressing Fire).
p180. Move "Technological Means" INTO the Cover and Concealment paragraphs.
p180: Create a new section called "SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS" to contain considerations not related directly to the attack task (potential members: designator fire, explosions, hits against objects, falling, knockdown).
p180: Move KNOCKDOWN to just after "HITS AGAINST OBJECTS".
p182: Move FALLING to just before KNOCKDOWN.
