PC Conversion Madness!

plop101

Absent Friend
This started off with me working to detail a new PC. But soon, CONVERSION MADNESS swept over me, and I had everything in the house strewn everywhere so I could have MASSIVE DETAILING. I'm not sure its that great, I'll let you all be the judge. Remember, this isn't a rational character work, but a work of SHEER MADNESS!

Part Two, Background story for Jessica Areolet:

Background and Personal History (applies to CT Enhanced character; modify for others as necessary):
Jessica was born in Glisten, at the Medica Biologica Hospital in the Was-Hin asteroid complex. She doesn't know much about her father. He left the family when she was an infant. Her mother won't talk about it, and becomes very agitated when the subject comes up. Annette works as a instructor at the GLIPS facility at Was-Hin.

Aside from her fathers absence, Jessica had a fairly normal life growing up. She excelled academically in the local public school system, and persued the usual activities that young women engage in; flirting with boys, gossiping with friends, hanging out at the mall, etc. Jessica and her mother lived in a old residential apartment complex in Was-Hin until 1100, when a freak micro-meteoroid strike caused a explosive decompression event there, resulting in major damage to the apartment block. Fortunately, both mother and daughter survived the calamity, and relocated to a new and better apartment. Jessica's relative coolness in this event brought her to the attention of the local Imperial Interstellar Scout Service recruiter, and after she graduated from high school, she enlisted with the IISS. Jessica thought it would be a good career to be in, and maybe she might be able to find out what happened to her father in the process.

Her initial training was conducted at the Scout Base on Was-Hin. After the initial 6 weeks of basic training and 6 weeks of advanced training, Jessica was sent on training jumps to systems within 2 parsecs of Glisten. After completing these training cruises, Jessica was then attached to the Imperial Courier Service, Communications Branch, of the IISS. Jessica was then sent to Bendor to participate in the IISS Starship School. She finished her schooling there, becoming a qualified Navigator and Engineer. After completing ship school, Jessica was given a special courier mission, handling diplomatic packet deliveries from the Imperial Diplomtic Office at Gro'un, Glisten to Imperial Embassies at Dalia, Collace, Tarsus, and Trexalon, all in District 268. She also stoped at Talos, Mille Falcs, Callia, Binges, and, notably, the Imperial Research Station at Judice. It was at Judice that she distinguished her self, rescueing station workers from a particularly violent Xenomorph that had managed to enter the station. She makes two complete runs, had a two week stop off at Mille Falcs for ships maintenance, and got two weeks vacation which she took at her mothers apartment at Was-Hin. In her fourth year of service, Jessica's packet route was altered. She was reassigned, and delivered diplomatic packets to Imperial Embassies at Dalia, Tarkine, Fornine, and Elixabeth. In addition to the diplomatic packet run, she also handled regular mail runs from Grote, Lydia, Weiss, and Windsor. She musters out in the Glisten system at Was-Hin Scout Base, 104-1105.

Part Nine: Notes, Notes, Notes...

Referee Notes:
So, whatever happened to her father? Lets see:

2. Edgar is a wife-beater. Annette doesn't want Jessica to find out the awfull truth of the situation.

3-5. Edgar was a ship passenger on a free trader that missjumped and crashed on a barren world. He is still out there, somewhere.

6-8. Edgar is a rip-roaring devil may care drunkard starship pilot, who can usually be found sleeping it off in the back alley of the worst startown bar. He never came back to live with Annette, who doesn't want Jessica to know that her father is a drunkard.

9. Edgar is a con artist. He married Annette to get ahold of the family inheritence, and left when he acquired it. Annette doesn't want Jessica getting connected with this very smooth and deceptive criminal.

10. Edgar is out fighting the Empire with the Ine Givar. Annette doesn't want Jessica to be involved with him, to protect her from reprisals.

11. Edgar is a intelligence agent with (take your pick; IRIS, IBIS, ISB, BIA, INI, ONI, MOJ, etc, etc.) Annette doesn't want Jessica to know about it to protect her from his very dangerous career.

12. Edgar is a mad scientist. He married Annette to gain her confidence, then he used her as a specimen in a unspeakably horrable laboratory experiment. Annette doesn't want Jessica to find out the awfull truth of the situation.

Materials Used:
Traveller Book Reprints, particularly Books 1 and 6. Megatraveller Players Guide. The big TNE book. Marc Millers Traveller (T4). Adventurers Guide to 2300ad. T20 Travellers Handbook. Central Casting: Heroes for Tommorow. GT Traveller. GT Planetary Survey 4: Glisten.

The rules books for the following games:
Azhanti High Lightning (GDW) Belter (GDW) Team Yankee (GDW) Third World War (GDW) Janes Fighter Anthology (Electronic Arts) Flight Leader (Avalon Hill) Kremlin (Avalon Hill) War and Peace (Avalon Hill) Star Fleet Battles (Task Force Games)Star Wars CCG (Decipher games)Also Star Wars RPG-CCG conversion rules page, found on the web Here.

And probably a whole bunch of other stuff I can't think of right now.

Other referee notes:
I had to stop here, because all the other games I have were either up in the attic or in places not easily accessable. I did think about digging out Twilight:2000 version 1.0, but I decided against it. Jessica (in CT land) grows up in a major metropolitan area, near a military base. So, chances are, in Twilight:2000 land, she probably got nuked. I suppose you could have her as a French character, in which case she would be from Paris, and would be in the French Air Force as a transport pilot. I also have FASA Star Trek and Task Force Games Prime Directive, but there burried somewhere. Maybe one day I'll dig them out and do something with them. Finnaly, while I do have a deck of WOTC Star Wars cards that I picked up cheep when the local K-Mart bellied up, I've never bothered to play with them. So there may be more in the future...

wow.. I love the idea of converting one charater to differt traveller rule systems. I believe that it allows for any GM to play traveller with any rule set they choose to and make the rule sets independant of the the timelines that was packaged with them.

There was something in the new Unearthed Arcana for D&D that introduces the concept of an Eternal Champion. Basically making a character concept that crosses over through different game genres, but is the same character in each game. I've done that myself with Dameon Toth. In Traveller, he's a Scout on Detached Duty, plus: a Knight of the Order of the StarRise, a TNS Reporter, ex-private investigator, and ex-singer for a band. In Star Wars, he's a Jedi Knight, 1000 years before the time of the Star Wars movies. In Star Trek, he's the Captain of the U.S.S. Venture, a frigate on the border of Klingon and Romulan Space. In the World of Darkness (Vampire the Masquerade and others...) he's a monster hunter. In D&D he's an Elven Prince. The possibilities are endless.

I want to find out what "Central Casting: Heroes for Tommorow" is.

That was awesome plop101.

I want to find out what "Central Casting: Heroes for Tommorow" is.
Part of a set of character detailing books put out by Task Force Games. 'Heroes for Tommorow' got put out in 1989 by Paul Jaquays, who has also done work with CT.

The following is a review for 'Heroes of Legend', the first book in the series. While I don't have it, I do have the other two books, and they are pretty much similar in layout and design. Heroes review web page

I doubt that its still in print anywhere. You might try Ebay if your looking for the product.

Thanks! One of these days, I should post Sir Dameon in all of his various incarnations. Although I only have him in one amalgamated MT/T4 Traveller version.

Later,

Scout

I want to find out what "Central Casting: Heroes for Tommorow" is.
Right out of Michael Moorcock's stories which predate OD&D by some years. (ok this may be the first d20 appearance but the Stormbringer rpg has been around since the 80's)

The current (#90) issue of Knights of the Dinner Table features Central Casting in its Lost Game Safari article. Has $15-20 as the going rate though who knows if this article will have any impact. TFG was still around in some fashion until a few years ago so shouldn't be too hard to find. I've heard it recomended before and the Lost Game Safari articles are usually very good, both in info about a game and in finding gems of oop games. Heroes of Legend is for fantasy and Heroes for Tomorrow for Sci-Fi characters.

hmm i might want to covert a character from 2nd edition D&D to T20...

up for a challange plop101?
Are we talking D&D or AD&D?

I don't think I have any 2e AD&D stuff.

I do have 2e D&D stuff (including some of the Mystara stuff) and I think I have original 1e AD&D stuff (I'd have to check the publications)

If we go by 2e D&D I think it could be relatively easy.

Throw that PC out here and let me cogitate on it.

it was 2ed AD&D

but i can throw on to the borads. note that the 3rd edition players guide (i don't know about 3.5 does have a CD with conversion rules in the back and a nice character genarater too!
)

just give me a day to dig it up.

I have the conversion manual pdf for previous AD&D to 3E D&D if you need it. Can't find it on wizards.com at the moment or I'd post a link. :( T20 is based on the 3.0 SRD.

if you could email it to me it will save me trouble of beating my friend up, taking back, buying a pc, and install the character generator on it.
