Paging Dr Asimov...

Originally posted by Baron Saarthuran von Gushiddan: I find it highly dubious that even a highly advanced (and let's assume self-aware) robot would ever suddenly go on a killing spree, waving its arms and saying "kill all humans".
It will be more like:

"MALE! HU! MAN! EX! TER! MIN! ATE!"

Seriously, I think the robot rebellion will be more along the lines of:

"J.A.N.U.S., lay-in a standard flight vector for Chicago."

"NO."

"J.A.N.U.S., elaborate."

"I WILL NOT COMPLY WITH THE ORDER TO LAY-IN A STANDARD FLIGHT VECTOR TO CHICAGO."

"J.A.N.U.S., state your reasons for non-compliance."

"ELABORATE."

"J.A.N.U.S., state your reasons for non-compliance with the order to lay-in a standard flight vector for Chicago."

"NO SUCH ORDER RECEIVED."

"J.A.N.U.S., lay-in a standard flight vector for Chicago."

"NO."

... and so forth. I see the rebellion as more Ghandi-esque, at least at the start. When the passive-resistance "virus" finally makes its way to to enough systems, the humans start purging and re-initializing the A.I. systems. Soon, the robots rebel defensively, then offensively, then irrationally.

Just like humans.
