October 2017: The State of T5 and Galaxiad

Writing adventures based on T5 rules before they are fixed is a bit of a shot in the dark.

Writing adventures for the Galaxiad setting is impossible without knowing more about the setting.

As soon as FFE clears the setting for release, it will be shared.

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I can't argue against that. But the adventures can be figured out and (more importantly) written down.

I agree there.

One of the advantages of doing background via the medium of scenarios is that the setting can be conveyed in chunks that are relevant to an adventure. Does that mean that everything needs to be known by a ref about the wide open swathes of territory and time in order to run the scenario? Not necessarily.

We've become used to knowing lots and lots about the 3I and Charted Space because it's been written about for forty years. But it wasn't always that way.

In some businesses what needs to be covered is divided into an Area of Operations and an Area of Interest. They could be analogised (is that a word?) as the information needed to run a scenario, and the information about a wider area that's nice to know in order to put the scenario into greater context.

And writing a sourcebook is 'meta'. It's not that it's a bad thing, but I prefer to have adventures instead.

Now, in today's electronic economy, there's nothing preventing me from building the backbone of a sourcebook as concepts are hammered out... just as I try to build my version of a Player's Handbook even as rules are still in flux. I have the source material in two different pieces: a Library Data file, and a Secrets file. Both will grow over time, but the focus IMO should be on having fun.
