New website dedicated to T5

Swordy

SOC-12
Because April 1st has become the Official Traveller 5 rumor day, I have chosen this magic moment to announce the launch of a new web site honoring (and anticipating) this elusive questing beast. Little discussions and spotty rumors pop up here and there from time-to-time, but now T5 has a Rumor Central! Starting some time shortly after 00:00:00 Zulu time on April 1, 2003 you can visit---

http://www.Traveller5.com : The site for fans who are ahead of their time!

Is this an April fool? Not entirely ;) Look for it to improve over the next couple of weeks as I get a better handle on the various lines of thought about the future of the Far Future.

is a game, and that it goes differently
for everyone who plays. Bon voyage!"

Very nice place.I regestered already
.Look foward to lots of discussions there as well as here.

Hmmm, looks interesting. (Then again I do tend toward the unrepentent CT fan side of the spectrum).

No, I was able to register without a problem.

BTW, I'm pretty much a CT guy, too. Although, I do add in some things from *all* the versions.

If I was in charge, and I'm not <g>, I'd base T5 on CT and add in bits and pieces from other versions. I'd add in an MT style task system to handle every sort of action, including character generation. I'd keep the skills broad, and not have too many of them, closer to CT than even MT which I think went too far. I'd use a slightly revamped FFSI/II for gearheading, but would keep simple gearheading in the main book(s) by using what T20 has done. I'd treat weapons, armor and combat much more like GURPS does, maybe adding action points out of ACQ for advanced combat. I like simple trading rules, and the T20 chart looks like a good way to expand what we have in CT/B2. I really like the EPIC scenerio system that Marc(?) has developed and has been used in T20. Star system generation should stay with the traditional Traveller approach, with maybe a bit of an update. As much as everyone (including me at times) complain about the computer rules from B2, I'd keep them pretty much as they are because they work *in play* even if they don't match up with the real world. Finally, I'd publish the main rule books as LLB's in a plain black box with little artwork and *very* little reference to the OTU setting, *but* I'd also have a big, bright, colorful setting book ready to go out at exactly the same time...the setting grabs attention of the newcomers, and leads them to the rules, while the oldtimers (like me) would zero in immediately on the LLB boxed set of rules.

That's what I'd do. <g>

The forums have been giving me fits for days, but we've finally nailed down the offending database connection file and have whipped it back into shape.

Now, where were we?
