New Traveller site

[link removed]

This site is brand new so it's pretty crude at the moment. There are some book scans and designs of my own that you might find of interest.

If you see something you like you should download it because the contents there will change periodically due to website space limitations.

Ship design: 'Ariel' class 100 ton Freighter - the tech level 9 "DC3 Dakota" of interstellar space.

Ship design: Orbital Tug - a scan from the old High Passage magazine

Ship design: 'Serpent' class winged Scout Ship - a scan from 'Best of the Journal of the Traveller's Aid Society 1-4'.

Shameless plug... At least try something else than Cut'N'Paste from the website...

Please, at least try do fiddle with M$ Paint or any other FREE paint program on the net. Scans of penciled sketches with "electronically added text" doesn't look very good :(

Now this is playing with fire... Posting (c) material like that on a board where you're bound to bump into the actual (c) owners or some of their friends.

I'd suggest you take those down.

First of all, I cut and paste do to time limitations. Furthermore, I do not consider wanting to share long out of print material as some sort of 'shameless plug'.

As far as the line drawing, that was done in 1982. Not many versions of Windows Paint out there at the time.

I just got all of my Traveller stuff out of storage and haven't had time to convert anything to a really nice format.

If you like the idea, simply do it all nice yourself.

As far as the other two designs go, I've seen another sites with stuff like that including that winged scout ship, so there.

My intention was to share some of my rather large early 1980's collection with the rest of the world to keep it from vanishing. Some of that stuff hasn't been in print for a LONG time and much of it hasn't been seen by most for a generation.

It is highly probably the other sites that display the Serpent actually ASKED for permission first. And even if they didn't, they didn't advertise their sites on a BBS frequented by the copyright holder and his close personal friends.

They are not trying to be jerks, either. They MUST enforce the copyright, or they will forfeit it. They don't have a choice.

Also, the Serpent floorplans are currently in print. While it is true its been 20 years since JTAS and Best of JTAS, the Serpent is now in FFE006 (JTAS 2, pp 8-9), which IS in print.

Those are typically deckplans that have been redone by the person posting them rather than direct scans. You have posted more than the 'one-page' of scanned or copied material allowed under the trademark holder's fair use policies. Remove the material.

Despite your good intentions you have no rights or authority to post this material.

OK, in the interest of civility, I'll remove the stuff that's still in print, since I did not know that it was so.

Actually that applies to trademarks not copyrights.

Comply with the fair use policies that you are now aware of. The other choice is possibly having Geocities remove the illegal material for you. They frown upon copyrighted material being posted on their site without the owner's permission. Which you do not have.

Thank you. If you wish to repost the link to your site again you are welcome to.

Wasn't trying to stir up a hornet's nest guys, just wanted to share some old stuff.

Some of the stuff I didn't realize was still in print. As much as I loved the game, I've been out of the loop for a while.

Anyway, as soon as I unpack some of my original stuff I'll post it up. Most of it was from the era when we did everything with pencils, graph paper, rulers, compass, and other hand tools.

[Un]fortunately, it has nothing to do with it being in print or not.

Personally, I'd prefer things long OOP and without any reachable/known copyright owner to be kept alive electronically. Unfortunately for the human civilisation, too much will disappear because some think that 75/95 years is barely enough for copyright. The US has legislated so and it must be enforced on their territory.

Unfortunately for you, it is neither OOP, and this board (and geocity) fall under US laws (located in US premices, AFAIK).

Most of the Traveller ship designs I've seen on the internet are simply established and copyrighted ship designs and deckplans redrawn by the 'designer' with the rooms moved around a bit. Nobody seems to have a problem with that.

So, you could take the copyrighted design and draw them out yourself. I think if you make a couple of minor changes it would be acceptable.

Just a thought and an attempt to throw some encouragement in amongst all this negative slap-down.

and is much better than simple and complete scans of originals
