New EPIC Adventures

My longish term (but very vague) plan for my own campaign is to set the players loose in the Sword Worlds during the build up to the fifth frontier war.

They will be running a merchant ship but will be asked by Naval Intelligence to pick up reports from agents via predefined methods/locations. Nice and simple, minimal risk

If you wanted to do something like this, then I certainly would not complain! Especially after seeing your excellent Golden Age Epic (which will be used as a later part of the campaign if it gets that far).

Chris

Thanks for that Chris. I'm glad you enjoyed GA-1. It is a good idea about naval intelligence and collecting it from various exostic/dangerous locations. I have GA-3 still to write, the completion of the trilogy, which will necessarily complete the sequence so it has to be set in D 268 and be a followon from GA-2.

I got the wrong end of the stick, I thought you were asking for more general ideas. This would be more of a GA-0 or GA-(-1)....

Ahhh - are you thinking about ideas set in Gateway during the golden age, rather than either one or other? If so, I was way off base.

Chris

For 993, anything usable as a loose continuation from EA1-3 could be good. Something for a small ship (not necessarily ye olde Barn) with a crew who do a bit of trade/freight and don't mind "unusual" jobs.

If you set it in the Eda Cluster, which is nearby, the planets already have library data in the Starfall material that you could reproduce. Perhaps the plot could be something involving a very high tech cargo to/from Eda (TL15), and a group out of the GTC who "show an interest" in it. The various members of the GTC will have a lot of potential as both patrons and opponents once Starfall comes out, it would be neat to lay some ground for that.

for golden age how about a twilight type thing with a long slow freeform buildup gathering rumours/info about an historical mystery leading to a set piece dungeon crawl?

[or i have a specific plot outline but no time (and little skill) to write it up. if you or anyone else wants it .....]

I would love to see some of the stuff found on this site (CotI web board) about SolaCola and Havacola trade wars or wars between Large corporations that they try to keep small enough to avoid Imperial intervention (small tacticle nukes blowing up plants or warehouses). ;) :D

Man, I'll take any decent 993 modules you make.

With my campaigns (in any game) the longevity and fondness the players have for the game depends heavily on the availability of good modules. We all work, so no one is writting modules from scratch and my group is 8 players of varying interests. I could keep a group of 3 happy with "we're merchants and play with the merchant tables" indefinitely, but not 8, lol.

I think an EA that takes us from EA3 to Starfall, or the general vicinity, as a tie in for the Starfall cluster book would be a welcome product. (Given the planned release date of Starfall Cluster and the normal turn around time from completion to publication, I don't think there would be time to get two in, which, IMHO, would be ideal.)

Greetings and salutations,

I would like to see a trilogy or two dealing with the Solomani Rim War. One trilogy dealing with the Solomani advances until the stalemate. The second trilogy dealing with the 3I starting to make advances into the Solomani Autonomous Region. Also an Epic Adventure dealing with the invasion of Terra or at the very least, the preparations for it.

This idea of a trilogy dealing with the Sollie War is a good one. It would be set however, outside the Gateway domain, so I would have to enquire about whether I could set it in the old Expanses or Diaspora sectors.

I think it would be nice to see something about how the situation in the Gateway sector is influenced by the Solomani Rim War.

I imagine that, when that war begins, the Imperium gradually withdraws more and more of its military assets, particularly Navy units, from the Gateway Domain - from others to, but probably mostly from this one which does not face any major power across the border.
This lack of Imperial firepower, and the decreasing likelyhood (and possibility) of large-scale Imperial interventions, could fan the flames of ambition within the various client states and independent systems. Maybe the Sydites want to rebuild the Sydymic Outworlds Cluster? Maybe the K´Kree want to "convert" a Imperial client state or two to vegatarianism? Maybe a latter-day Alexander the Great tries to create an interstellar empire from scratch?

Maybe not answering the question asked, but I'd love to see some modules that AREN'T married to the old school format that is used by the Epic modules. Maybe more detailed modules, story oriented, like a lot of DnD 3e material that is out there.

That's the sort of thing that is missing from GURPs Traveller. If they had good modules I'd have probably never purchased T20.

The new epic format was developed by MWM. It is used as a framework for adventures published by QLI. It is not an easy format to write in. MJD's own venture, Avenger, is not wedded to the epic format however. Adventure 1: Call of the wild is more like the CT format, not the new epic format. MJD's TNE adventure is also not in epic format. So yes, there is the opportunity to write non-epic format adventures through Avenger at least.

RickA,

The EPIC format is a lot more story oriented and detailed than the CT modules of old, in all actuality. It's not the old format you've been referring to.

Here's the details on the format:
http://www.traveller5.com/EPIC.html

You can see free examples of it in some of the downloads from QLI, as well as Stellar Reaches.

Hope this helps,
Flynn

Ah, you're right, Flynn.

It's been so long since I had looked at one of the original modules I'd forgotten exactly how little they gave for actual at the table adventure, hehheh. The epics are much better but still aren't what a percentage of GM's out there are looking for (like that "a" percentage? Nice well defined term there, heheh).

Look at something like... the Seven Avengers campaign from Oone games. It would be super to have something more along those lines for a Traveller RPG.
