All,
I've finished the initial release of deckplans for a Type T Patrol Cruiser. The deck plans are inspired by the illustrations of the Type T Patrol Cruiser that appear in the Imperial Encyclopedia by GDW.
The deck plans are also based upon modifications of the
description/specifications of the Type T Patrol Cruiser that appear in the Traveller's Handbook for T20.
The plans are available at:
http://homepage.mac.com/vutpakdi/Traveller_Deck_Plans/
The plans come in 4 different versions:
- Small with text labels (JPEG)
- Small with numeric labels (JPEG)
- 15mm scale, 144 DPI with text labels (PDF)
- 15mm scale, 144 DPI with numeric labels (PDF)
The small versions are designed for on screen display.
The latter two versions are designed to be printed and are about 33" square.
The text label versions have minimal labels while the numeric labels version has numeric labels for almost every area of interest.
A portion of the description file appears below:
As usual, llease let me know what you think.

Ship Description / Background
============================================================================
In 940, as tensions with the Solomani Autonomous Region were heating up and
the region's charter was revoked, the Diaspora Sector Navy requested design
proposals for 200 new Type T Patrol Cruisers to suppress the anticipated
rise in piracy and smuggling if the Diasporan Navy needed to send heavier
units towards the Solomani frontier at the request of the Imperial Navy.
Both GsBAG and Ling Standard Products submitted design proposals that both
met the indicated specifications. In light of the urgency of the situation,
the Diasporan Navy took the unusual step of authorizing the production of
both designs with each of the two megacorporations producing 100 of their
own design.
The GsBAG design used a semi-streamlined cylindrical hull. The GsBAG
design team was heavily staffed by former naval personnel accostomed
to long patrols. and the resulting design reflected that orientation by
having a 25.8 dTon cargo bay and ample common, wardroom, and officers'
mess areas.
The Ling Standard Products built their design around a fully streamlined
wedge hull and deliberately gave the patrol cruiser a sleak, fighter like
aggressive appearance. The Ling Standard Products team included naval and
customs patrol personnel, and took the approach that the patrol cruiser
should have adequate endurance and living quarters but needed a small
craft for maximum versatility given the tactical advantages of not having
to dock the patrol cruiser to ships for inspection. The resulting design
has less cargo area (15.8 dTons) and smaller common, wardroom, and officers'
mess areas, but is able to carry a ship's boat for inspections.
The GsBAG Udeskiaii class Patrol Cruisers proved to be generally popular with
their crews given the ample quarters, but also less flexible and versatile
given the partial streamlining and lack of small craft. Also, several of the
class were lost when hijackers hiding onboard a merchant ship awaiting
inspection stormed the inspecting patrol cruiser while the two ships were
docked together.
The Ling Standard Products TimberHawk class Patrol Cruiser's living conditions
weren't as popular with their crews and the initial and operating costs are
higher, but overall, the class was very popular with the crews and navies
given the flexibility the ship's boat provided. As a result, the TimberHawk
class entered production across the Imperium and became a somewhat common
version of the Type T, 400 dTon Patrol Cruiser.
Like the Udeskiaii class, the TimberHawk's armaments are 2 triple turrets of
pulse lasers and 2 triple turrets of missile racks. One laser turret and
one missile turret are mounted dorsally, and one laser and one missile turret
are mounted ventrally.
The crew quarters are somewhat cramped. Only the captain and the commander
of the ship's troops have private cabins. All other crew share cabins, and
the ship's troops share a bunkroom.
The TimberHawk has 20 low berths, but rarely are the low berths used to
house a frozen watch. More commonly, the low berths are empty and
occasionally used to house prisoners.
---
In T20 terms, the standard T20 Patrol Cruiser allocates 12 dTons for 6
lasers and 6 missile racks. This allocation is 8 dTons above what is
required because each turret only takes up 1 dTon regardless of the number of
weapons installed. The cost for the Patrol Cruiser is low since the Sickbay
is costed at stateroom costs.
The standard Patrol Cruiser is listed at MCr 282.8 with a standard discounted
cost of MCr 226.24.
By my calculations, to include the sickbay officially, the list cost should be
MCr 286.8 with a standard discounted cost of MCr 229.44.
The TimberHawk class Patrol Cruiser has the same characteristics as the
standard Patrol Cruiser except:
uses a Wedge hull
drops the cargo capacity by 10 dTons
only includes 15 staterooms/stateroom equivalents
explicitly includes a sickbay
includes a 30 dTon Ship's Boat.
increases the crew complement by 1 (pilot for the Ship's Boat).
The cost of the TimberHawk Patrol Cruiser increases by:
+MCr 8 for Wedge hull
-MCr 1.5 for the removed staterooms
+MCr 37.952/ MCr 30.362 for the Ship's Boat
The total cost is: MCr 331.252 list and Mcr 265 discounted.
In terms of apperance, the TimberHawk class essentially looks like the Type T
Patrol Cruiser from the illustrations in The Imperial Encyclopedia (MegaTraveller)
from GDW.
