Neural Activity Sensor

Gadrin

SOC-14 1K
When did the Neural Activity Sensor first show up in Traveller ?

I saw one in T4's Central Supply Catalog at TTL 13. Just wondering
if one made an appearance in CT before that.

My search of .pdfs came up nil.

Not sure if it showed up sooner but first I recall was in MegaTraveller (ship design). TL13-20 (increased ranges) and pretty light and cheap (5kg and Cr20,000, not including power supply). Pretty sure there was an equipment data sheet on a portable NAS somewhere too (thought it was in "World Builder's Handbook" but it doesn't seem to be there).

IIRC:
1st appearance: DGP, for CT, Crand Census or Grand Survey.

1st canon appearance: MT Ref's Manual, design sequences, p. 69

Yes, when I expanded the search to Mega-Traveller it showed up in the ship building + the Encyclopedia for man-sized sensors.

I just thought it was in CT originally.

Thanks for the help!

It was, just in DGP materials for CT, not in CT core.

Hmmm, that makes me wonder about it's origins...

Who (as in author/writer) brought it into Traveller ? It makes sense, since it's the outgrowth of TTL12 (?) psionic technology.

Anyone know ?

There was a CT reference in one of the original adventure books (under the "available equipment" section in the beginning) to a mediscanner which could be set for wide area and used as a primitive type of "life detector", but the mechanism it used was not specified in detail. I do not think it was air-pressure-based à la the Aliens movie, but I cannot be certain.

I am away from home, and cannot trawl my books or CD-ROMs at present to track down the exact source, but it is the reason my characters tend to pack one of the things even to this day; someone with the books handy could check Annic Nova and Chamax Plague/Horde, for starters... but it might be Mission on Mithril or even Safari Ship, AFAIK...
