Names Needed

Ok I just went through and rolled up my first T5 subsector. I hit about 462 locations not counting rings, and stars that need names. Anyone want to help :)

I need French
Darrian
Droyne
and Solamanie (sp?) names

Can you guess the subsector? if you do I ll use your name in my naming

Anyone else do a subsector yet? When I am done naming everything around midjune I might have it on a webpage to share.

I need French

Go to the French Wikipedia. Hit 'random article'. Pick a word that looks good.

Darrian
Droyne

There are rules for generating both. I have a sheet with rules for generating Darrian names for my own purposes, but I doubt it would be correct to post the entire set of tables. Perhaps you can google a program that generates Darrian and/or Droyne words; I know there are some such programs out there, although I don't know if they include Darrian and Droyne.

and Solamanie (sp?) names
For Solomani names, go to Wikipedia. Hit 'random article'. Pick a word that looks good.

For proper names, first roll on this table:

Solomani subtable (D100)
------------------------

01-12 Anglic
13-17 Arabic
18-25 Chinese
26-28 Ethiopian
29-33 French
34 Gaelic
35-39 German
40-42 Greek
43-44 Hungarian
45-52 Indian
53-57 Japanese
58-60 Polish
61-65 Portuguese
66-67 Romanian
68-75 Russian
76-78 Scandinavian
79-80 Slavonic
81-88 Spanish
89-96 Turkish
97-00 Other

Then google a list of first names and one of surnames of that ethnicity. Randomly pick a first name and a surname.

(This is from my unfinished work on Imperial ethnicities; permission granted to use it. Even verbatim and for profit. Just don't forget the proper attribution ;)).

Another source of Darrian names: Take an English noun. Substitute Darrian letters for all letters that don't exist in Darrian. Occasionally separate adjacent consonants with vowels.

Examples:

Deloter - floater (air/raft)
Kelok - clock
Zbayes - spacer
Zgot - scout

I like making names up, but I doubt they'll be exactly what you want. That being said, I'm going to splatter some here for you. And if you don't use em, I will! Muahahha!!

Soolamesh, Krikzul, Aeferma, Challek, Oomayun
Warine, Tumaran , Ferkane, Jallahoop, Irroduit,
Hallagah, Thweiforpe, Niche, Illeg,
Weskha, Inodorit, Vi'ehk, Norrutosch

Anything?

The Droyne was easy I just used the supplement and tried to come up with some patterns to make it look like a language. The human I am cheating and just using world names from other parts of the Imperium. I am doing the same with the one Aslan colony I have to deal with. Han's Darien idea is interesting but I need proper names.

How about an SF authors subsector.

Asimov
Verne
Hainlein
Clarke
Piper
Vance (as in Jack)
Norton (as in Andre)
Campbell (as in John, editor of Analog)
Niven
Pournelle

My favourite method, is to pull out old maps and play with place names... a bit more suited to a smaller scale than an entire sector and subsector, but lots of fun. Or you can dive in on google maps to find street names to adapt from different cities like Paris, Lyon, etc... for those that need a special touch of elan....

Eg,
Saint Roche
Danromain
Gustave
Langevin
Mery-Sur-Chabris
Nevers-Garnier

I do the same sometimes, but I usually take the words and transpose syllables.

E.g.

Saint Romain
Dangevin
Gustroche
Larromain
Mery-Sur-Garnier
Nevers-Chabris

I also look for interesting people names. I go in search of an historic topic, then look for names associated with it - the lesser well known, the better.

Explorers
A minor kingdom somewhere
The growing of corn
Obscure brands of single malt whisky
etc....

I would go with some explorers names too. There are a lot of them that most people have never heard of, or who set out exploring and then never came back.
