My map of the Spinward Marches

Arse! Why didn't anybody mention this on page 1!?

Okay, well Bill, Sig and Mal have won me over - especially as Bill and Mal agree for once, how can it possibly be wrong!! :D . I've actually got the CT Spinward Marches Campaign so I'm going to revise the map using that as the source instead. I'll let y'all know when it's done and uploaded... again!

Maybe the planet Ochre (half way between Dinomn and Ghandi) will reappear again too =)

The Spinward Marches campaign has errors in it too ;)

Still no Ochre though...

(Which publication did you find it in? I can't find it in any Spinward Marches stuff I have.)

Well, I suppose if it's more canonically acceptable than BtC seems to be then I guess I can only be less wrong!

This is the trouble with Traveller. There are so many factions that you try and do something nice and most people can't use it, because it's either the wrong rule system or it doesn't fit in their TU or both. I don't mind so much with this map because really I'm doing this for myself and sharing for the sake of it.

Planet Ochre? God knows. I seem to recall getting the map from the intertron so I can only guess that it's probably been added for the map-maker's campaign.

I can, I have that too, I just need a general concensus on which one is the most canonical. I would assume that as it was first, the CT LBB SM Supp would be the most canonical but it's never that easy with Traveller. Opinions?

S3 makes sense, you know it does, yes you do ...

What was that?

Scarecrow,

There are mistakes in both. Also, S3 doesn't list x-boat routes. I would use a blend of both S3 and SMC.

There are differences between S3 and SMC. Some of those differences are mistakes and some are ret-cons. For example, Regina's improved TL in SMC was a ret-con. The trouble is we don't have a list of which differences were meant to be ret-cons!

Have fun,
Bill

Emm, my copy of S3: The Spinward Marches has the x-boat routes clearly shown on the maps ;)

I'm not convinced that Regina was a retcon, I think it was a mistake in SMC

, a product which is riddled with mistakes (the character generation charts in the back are a good example of cut'n paste error...)

Every CT adventure that mentions Regina up to Secret of the Ancients has Regina at TL10. LBB6 has Regina with a TL of 10. FFW has Regina with a TL of 10.
IMTU I stick with TL 10.

The colour map that was included as part of the Deluxe edition of Traveller is pretty good IMHO.

Well, the Tech Level isn't an issue at all for this map.

Sigg, the MT wallposter map is great (I used it for Gas Giant presence) but it doesn't give hydrographic percentage (beyond yes or no) and doesn't give atmospheric data either.

I need accurate Hydrography, Atmosphere type and Diameter. Correct names, correct Amber and Red Zone allocation and planets where there are supposed to be planets and none where there's just supposed to be black. And I need it accurate enough that we can all agree on (a tall order with Traveller it seems!). If the X-Boat routes come with that then so much the better. The way I see it, the map I've done should be pretty much accurate. It should just be a small amount of fixes due to discrepancies in BtC that I need to fix and I'm thinking that S3 should be detailed (and accurate) enough for that.

Bill, my copy of S3 has black lines and dotted lines joining planets. In regina, they're in exactly the same place as the green lines on my map. Are they not x-boat routes?

BTC is proof enough that the GTU isn't even physically a parallel of the OTU...

Use S3 and/or SMC, and/or the tne domain book....

Yes, indeed. Very pretty good.

I'm just trolling through the errata for Behind the Claw and I can actually only see two changes I need to make. Shinothy needs to be Shionthy (apologies Andrew), and the diameter of Keanu is wrong. Other than that there are no errors in hydrographic percentage, diameter or atmosphere type (except Ghandi, which is supposed to be 'very' cold - but it's allready an iceball like Hoth so that doesn't make any difference). I'm going to cross-reference with S3 and SMC anyway, but hopefully there shouldn't be too much in the way of changes.

It doesn't prove anything. We KNOW GT is an alternate universe. But while details are different (errata notwithstanding), most of us understand that it's supposed to be broadly the same universe. Hell, CLASSIC traveller isn't consistent even within itself, between book 2 and book 5 you've got two different universes right there. And early adventures have major inconsistencies with later ones. If the OTU can't even get its own story straight then what's the big deal if a universe that is explicitly an alternate is different to it too?

I don't really know why it's so important a point for you to keep trying to make anyway. It's just a game, for crying out loud, it's really not worth having principles about. Just enjoy the damn thing and be done with it.

Thanks again Crow for the pdf and the work you're doing with this. Already your work is simply gorgeous, and I eagerly await the final map! Best of luck with ironing out the details.

I'll drink to that. Traveller is our game, after all.

I've been going through the books comparing stats. It's not too bad.

Comparing just the Diameter, Hydrographics and atmosphere on just the planets in my map, I have:

871-438/Jewell has no atmosphere and no water in S3 but has v thin tainted and 15% water in BtC

Ghandi/Lanth has thin atmo in S3 and Trace in BtC

Wypoc/Lanth has insidious in S3 and Corrosive in BtC

KKirka/Lanth (how the hell do you pronounce that?) has 100% water and 10K diameter in S3 and 47% and 11,774 in BtC

Wochiers/Regina has insidious atmosphere in S3 and v dense in BtC

Yurst/Regina has corrosive atmo in S3 and Dense Tainted in BtC

Finally, Dhian/Aramis has an exotic atmosphere in S3 and standard in BtC

That's not too bad. Maybe I'll factor in SMC too and and try and average them out so it works for all versions

IIRC Martin (as in MJD Martin) wrote BtC. If there's anything you're curious about in there that isn't obviously an error you might be able to ask him on the TAS boards about it?
