Lots of 70s prog-rock: Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, et al. Lots of mellotrons and spacey sound effects, lyrics that are frequently at least superficially futuristic/SF-related.
Early-period Roxy Music and/or Brian Eno (but not Bryan Ferry, solo artist)
Mike Oldfield: Songs of Distant Earth (something of a soundtrack to the Arthur Clarke book...)
The soundtrack to Midnight Express (70's movie about a Turkish prison), specifically the track "Chase" which many will recognize instantly but few know the source of...
Soundtracks to Battlestar Galactica, 2001 A Space Oddysey & Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
The long version of "Thus Spake Zarathustra" not just the short bit that got into 2001.

There is almost a pyschic connection in my mind between Traveller and The Electric Light Orchestra, mainly because just about every adventure I wrote in high school had one of their LPs playing in the background. "Time" and "Out of the Blue" being the biggies.
Based on the actions and antics of the last group I ran I would say Monster Magnet's "Powertrip" CD or Godsmack's self-titled CD would be more appropriate.
