Moon Zero Two

The Thing

SOC-13
For what it's worth, there's a cheesy little SF movie from 1970 or so called "Moon Zero Two" that I think a lot of traveller fhans might like.

Try to ignore the dumb way the producers insisted on stuffing a lot of western elements into it and it's a halfway decent SF film. It's no "2001", sure, but it's sure as hell no "Queen of outer space" either. (Yech!)

The "making the rat confess with the poison air bottle switch" was a neat trick and some other elements of it might appeal to travellers.

There was also a Signet paperback adaptation of the script. Believe it or not, and you probably won't if you watch the movie.

I remember enjoying that back in day. Something to do with a meteor made of solid emeralds or somethng.

Ah, Hammer Film's failed 1969 attempt to break into S.F.....
Ironically, it's module designs were based on logical extensions of the Grumman Lunar Module design...
As for the western elements in the movie, you could critique Outland for being a knockoff of High Noon....

I loved this film when I was a teenager and had a copy of the book (pre video those novelizations were the only way of keeping the memories fresh) but watched it again years later in exited anticipation & had one of those nostalgia disappointment moments.
This thread got me to trawl the internet & found this

The images give a good impression to any that haven't seen it.
And this was the most expensive production that Hammer ever made!
The FX made the old Dr Who look like a George Lucas production.
Must have had something though I can still now remember that damn theme tune.

HA! Have you seen any old Dr. Who eps? The effects in MZT were far, Far, FAR
and away better, at least you didn;t have the edges of characters flickering due to horribly cheap video matting.

You are right, that was a bit cruel -I was just a bit blinded by the fact that 2001 came out the year before and was thinking that was the norm for SFX by then but in retrospect Blakes 7 ten years later was still had laughable and very inferior effects (good old BBC budgets).
