Missile Damage

I am trying to understand the missile aspect of space combat. Why is explosive missile damage Pen and not Blast? How does the mount figure in? I am guessing a T4 mount fires four size 5 missiles.

Explosions in space aren't as nasty as explosions in atmosphere, because there's no gas to concuss.

Missiles likely explode right on impact, with a shaped charge bursting in toward the hull.

Or...

They could also be some form of bomb-pumped laser. I seem to recall those have Pen also.

Lasers are either Heat or Burn, I'm not sure which. I've seen it both ways, that is next on my list of how..?

As far as I can see the Mount has no effect on Missiles.

That's probably an oversight on Marc's part as Mounts affect all other weapons but Missiles function differently.

As for Pen and Blast....

Well Personal Combat and Space Combat are different so its not inconceivable that Blast and Pen mean different things between the two systems.... or are perhaps the same thing.

But I hate that idea.

So maybe if we think about it logically "Explosive" space missiles must be 1). directed explosions, focusing the power of the explosion, or 2). HEAT, HESH or contact explosive warheads that actually contact the hull before using explosive force to penetrate the hull or 3). that it is the shock effect of the energy transferred by the blast (thermal effects mainly not blastwave in vacuum) that actuall penetrates the armor.
