[MgT] High Guard Question

Is there someone (I'm sure) that has used MgT High Guard to run battles as big as some of the old High Guard ones?

If so, what did you think of it. A comparison if you please.

Have a quick search of the mongoose forum over at mongoose publishing, as there are a few posts where people take it apart and put it back together again - particularly threads from the last 6 months - just before the Mongoose version errata and pocket edition came out.

Not done anything too big in it (6 a side), but my personal take is probably does not scale as far as the old CT High Guard, purely because - although still abstract, has more phases per turn and a lot more decision points for a player to think about per turn, which I think would limit its scale compared to the original simply by slowing the game down. My gut feeling is no more than a squadron a side.
 
I thought I was the only one. I don't like it. Fortunately, it should be easy enough to use CT HG. Guess I will have to try something of a conversion.:nonono:

Being interested to see your variant. Not played it enough to decide whether I like it or not, still at the stage where you have to have the turn sequence in front of you and get some of the basics wrong. Space Combat has not been a big element of out MGT yet.
 
MT:HG battles

Hi,

I've just run a large MT HG battle with a Floriani battlefleet of 80 capital ships 320 escorts and 2,400 fighters against an Aslan battle fleet with 64 capital ships 960 Escorts and 19,200 light fighters. Even using fighter wings of 960 craft (for the Aslan) the fighters died easily and early, pulse lasers are useless at this level. I put all the Escorts in Flotilla's of 10 vessels, they died easily too. So did the smaller Cruisers, the Heavily armoured Cruisers and Battleships were only vulnerable to a Spinal Mount and needed two to four hits on the same section before being destroyed

From what I remember this is the same sort of result T:HG would have given, but I last played 25 years ago so could be wrong. To me it certainyl gives the feel I remember. It's cetainly worth the expense of building your 200,000 ton Battleship Hulls at tL15, or 14 if you are Aslan though, probably not worth it for anything below 75,000 tons. I would also aim for a minimum armour of 12 for any vessel contemplating fighting at this level, the zero armour Aslan Escort is useless.
