Megatraveller movement

Kpeterson

SOC-10
I think that I'm barely beginning to grasp the use of movement in Megatraveller. The first few read-throughs of the Player's Manual have left me wondering, "Huh-what?".

I'm not sure I see the need to break down Movement into Movement Points based upon Speed. Maybe someone can enlighten me there. Basically it seems that walking characters can travel 15 meters/turn. Running characters can travel 30 meters a turn. Characters expend points based up on the number of squares they travel through.

So, does Megatraveller have a free-floating approach to movement during a combat round? A character can take only a single ranged or hand-to-hand attack... but can they move at any point during a 6-second round?

"Move 2 square, fire, move 4 squares, seek cover, move an additional 4 squares, end of turn."

from what I gather it was created to alow for animaials and Aliens who don't move at the same spead as humans and may have diffrent mutplyers for travling above walking speed.

it does imply that the attack can come before or after movement.

It isn't clear enough to support attacking in the middle of movement, but could esily be used that way.

Also, by use of movement points, an interrupt can stop you at any point to be shot at, and you continue on thereafter.

Since movement is mp by mp, you can be interrupted at any point...

... which means, they can fire upon you (with a successfull interrupt) at the point of closest approach.

The biggest problem with MT is "Who Declares First"... once someone is forced to start acting, the interrupts can flow....

Problem? That what makes it fun - interrupt and counter interrupt - add more than two groups and all goes off. Its like the final fight in Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - guns going off everywhere, no-one knowing what the hell is happening

(I know there is a serious issue with initiative in MT, especially given that it is a group roll but interrupts are fun!)
