Medals - P109

PVernon

SOC-13
Knight
I think I missed something somewhere.

I have been doing a character, he/she is in the Navy and rolls on the risk/reward system. The driving characteristic is a 9, the mods are -2 for flight branch and -2 for strike so for risk the roll needed is 5 or less, made it with a 5. OK all fine and good. Reward is then roll under 13, got an 8. Checking the Medal table (on p109) subtract the roll from the characteristic gets a 1, that a XS. That is all fine.

Now if we used another characteristic say dex, a 6, he would need a 2 on risk, say he gets it, under reward if he were to roll the 8 again, he gets nothing for his barely surviving the strike, because 6 minus 8 is -2 no reward.

Is this correct or have I messed thing up?

Nope, exactly how it works. On the other hand, getting the 2 would have been a miracle, so thanking the lucky stars he wasn't wounded would be appropriate, or an indication that he was in one of the reserves that never participated in the fighting part of the strike.

So by making his reward roll he gets no reward?

That just does not feel right.

Still gets the campaign ribbon. By rolling over the stat you are finding that you participated but did nothing noteworthy. Not every action wins a person a reward for gallantry under fire.
