Mapping the Mains

JBRocky

SOC-11
Was flipping through a few of my books and it got me to thinking about all the J1 Mains out there, and the Vilani Main in particular. For those who don't know the Vilani Main is HUGE and goes into parts of about 5 sectors. I was wondering using the Travller Map if there was an easy way to highlight what worlds would be connected by a J1 Route and find exactly where the Vilani Main goes.

There is a map with the mains on it here: http://wiki.travellerrpg.com/Main

I still have the code to mark worlds that way, but I'd need to resurrect it. I know how to dump metadata to the TravellerMap (I still want to do the trade routes).

Ok that works just fine. Amusing part is that I was on the Wiki and just missed that guess I need to work on my search fu.

Just keep in mind that economically (as opposed to astrographically) a low-population world is almost1 as big a hindrance to J1 traffic as an empty hex, because you can't get enough trade and passengers to/from a low-population world to pay your overhead.
1 Not quite, because at least you can often get fuel at such a place, but almost.

Oh I agree, but I just wanted to know where some of the mains were.

When you see it mapped like that your Jump 1 playing area just got a whole lot bigger.

About what I though when I saw the Vilani Main, I knew it was big but not that big. Started thinking about it when I was looking at Interstellar Wars, wondering how far the Vilani might have gotten before they discovered J2. Needless to say its a loooooong way.

Oh, they came a lot further than that. It was either easy (if jumps to empty space was possible back then) or hard (if, as Interstellar Wars claims, jumps into empty space wasn't possible back then), but easy or hard, the Vilani visited places outside the Vilani Main (such as Sylea) long before they invented J2.

Was going to say something about how they could but would they if it was easier to just stick to the J1 mains but I kind of answered my own question there. Now I want to get a list of when the Vilani contacted different worlds and see where and what routes they might have taken to get places. Always amazing how such a simple project grows.
