Many things, which do I need?

I'm perfectly OK with T5 having lots and lots of options that are optional, but it is a bit overwhelming.

I only have the PDFs, so harder to share the book for people to look up and whatnot around the table.

What I want to know is what parts are the bare bones I need? Character generation, of course, and the basic skill rules, but there's so much else, what can I safely ignore and just get to playing?

I'll incorporate other things later.
 
I'd say tasks are the only thing you really need for all occasions, but probably personal combat too if you'll be having any of that. The rest is pretty optional. I'd print out the table of contents to show players so they know what options are available, in case they want to make a gun or sophont, or android, or use senses, or trade, etc. It might help if they learn to read a UWP too in case they are looking at any star maps for places to go and/or trade with. Maybe "Foundations of the Universe" if you don't feel like explaining any of that to them.
