Low berths are for the dogs!

Boffins create zombie dogs

They are actually looking for a way to treat massive trauma - where it seems that is the afterthought to low berths in Traveller. This is cool  , though the following quote does make me wonder:
Tests show they are perfectly normal, with no brain damage.
Ummm. They are dogs, how do you know if they have any brain damage? OK, they slobber, pant, eat, and chase balls as before. (BTW, this is not a dig at dogs, whom I think are much better than cats. :D ) But, would a human lose the ability to use a microwave or program a VCR? (Either would mean the end of civilation.)

Question: Would the Vargr resent us a little if they found out we used dogs to develop low berths?

Cats wouldn't be stupid enough to get in the thing in the first place ;)

A marginally better reply than my first idea which was to post:

Zombie dogs from outerspace! Great idea!

Sigg, have you heard of the "Buttered Cat" as a clean energy alternative? Cats always land on their feet, right? And buttered toast always lands butter side down, right? So, you strap buttered toast to a cat and drop it - it should hover and spin like crazy, with both sides trying to end up on the bottom....

Well sure until the cat dies at which point being a dead cat it will fall to the ground not caring if it lands feet first. And then you have to deal with PETA and the SPCA...

But you do get nine lives' worth of energy source before that happens. Better than a battery ...

I think the buttered cat idea would put some "green" groups in a quandry: cats, coal, or nukes?

Andrew, "Schroedinger's Battery"?

What happens when putting the loaf of bread on a dog?

The dog may spin trying to eat it (especially on the tail - might be something there). Or, your rug will get all buttery from the dog rolling around on the floor. :D

There is the more humane solution, the PBTD, (Pure Buttered Toast Drive) in which two pieces of Buttered Toast are placed dry side to dry side and the butter side out. As each piece attempts to fulfill its probability future and collapse the Heisenberg wave front, they spin at near C, creating nigh limitless power! A side effect is an improbability field effect in the immediate region, which provides inertia less drive and a contra-grav effect.
