Loose Ends and unresolved mysteries

Now we have figured out the Ancients and we have a reasonable explaination of the Annic Nova, Deadspace has been revealed...what are the big mysteries still left in the Traveller Universe?

Guess it depends on the version of Traveller one plays. YMMV.

1. Specifics about the Ancients and their war (hoping this'll be in one the T5 supplements).
2. Empress Wave and the Black Curtain (though now covered in the 1248 books).
3. The Primordials/Sparklers (but pretty sure that'll never be solved due to licensing issues).
4. Is Jump Space a natural phenomena or an artificial construct? What about Jump Space "ghosts"? (T4).

I know the first one but what's the story behind those last two? (Especially Deadspace as I've never heard of it).

Deadspace refers to an area where Jump Drives suddenly fail and IMTU manueuver drive also is fickle. But, here is the kicker, the area of space seems to be expanding and contracting with no real determined point of origin.

See Gateway to Destiny, but there are canon references to similar phenomenon is other areas of the Imperium.

Really? Are you sure?

Yes we have all learned about Grandfather and his war with his children. But that doesn't answer all the questions, and ends up leaving a far larger question: what is Grandfather up to now?

Consider: First Grandfather kills off all of his progeny because they might interfere with his experiments. Then, having cleansed the galaxy of those who might hinder him, he pinches off a few systems into a pocket universe and goes to live there for the next 300,000 years, leaving said galaxy behind. Does that make sense to you? What's he doing in there? Sitting on a tree branch, sipping margaritas under a starless sky?

The old bird is up to something I tell ya, and it is something REALLY big... (IMHO)

If we knew what it was, we might never sleep well again…

Exactly. Many years of gaming material sitting around waiting to be exploited.
IMTU all we really "know" about the Ancients is what "Grandfather" ~said~ to some interloping spacers instead of killing them.

Some Ancient things and places that are still apparently sitting around...

(Warning! Not sure how much of this is canon/used to canon/might still be canon/might have been shot out of a cannon)

Leenitakot
Regina's "other" system
Lair's "other" system
Ancient sites in Sol system
The Tireen Rosette
The other site on Antiquity
The other extinct/vanished/"ancient" species from Auitawry
Buried Ancient ship on Danforth´s World
The war with the Malaach
The Dyson Sphere from GT
That funky moon out in the Sword Worlds from GT
The other inhabitants of the Shinothy pocket universe
Effects of the Empress Wave on chirpers and Droyne populations

Lots of Ancient Mysteries still out there to baffle players and wipe out their ships... ;)

Where in canon? I'm not doubting you, I just can't recall where it appears.

And I'd still be interested in the 'truth' behind the Annic Nova.

District 278 if my memory isn't playing games on me at the moment. It doesn't say 'deadspace' and isn't a spot on description of deadspace, but the effects are somewhat similar. Screwed up jump times, etc.

I'm thinking I recall from GT BtC that there was someplace spinward/rimward in the Spinward Marches, a system, where a lot of ships that had been lost in Jump Space turned up. I always figured it was a "safety net" for mis-Jumps that the Ancients had put in place and forgotten about.

But, yeah, what is the Annic Nova secret? I don't recall it being anything other than an oddball custom design with an equally oddball jump drvie setup (a J2 and a J3, seems like). Always figured it came from spinward or coreward but can't recall if that was every spelled out explicitly.

Will

Finally dug it out.
T4 book "Gateway", the "Homecoming" section.

Not only jump space ghosts/demons/droyne but a ghost ship. Or part of it, anyway. Ghost as in "ain't really there, but sorta is".

gimme a "D"
gimme a "E"
gimme a "F"
gimme a "I"
gimme a "A"
gimme a "N"
gimme a "T"

GAROO! That's the place in 268. At least in GT.

And did anyone ever figure out what the mystery of Annic Nova is?

...the very best kind of mystery: one which goes largely unexplained in the Referee's Notes! The unorthodox starship, of obviously alien design and manufacture, crewed by a diminutive humanoid (minor?) race, whose demise is apparent but unidentified. The on board technology is advanced and exotic, yet it is not godlike. To deepen the mystery, there is a reference to the exotic world, Victoria.

As with many of the early GDW Adventures, details were provided on a strictly need-to-know basis, with many of the details left deliberately vague, if not missing altogether. Truly, an entire campaign might be run, using just this adventure as a starting point. Perhaps that was the initial aim.
