Looking for players in Brisbane Australia

Hello all,
If your on Brisbane's North Side and looking to play Traveller and have a day or two a month available, please let me know. I'd like to get a regular game going. My current group are great gamers but they have a lot on there plates right now.

If your up for a game, please let me know and perhaps we can get some Traveller together.

If you can pay for my plane ticket to Brisbane, I'll play every week! ;)
(I really enjoyed a visit to Brisbane several years ago.)

(I'm in the USA.)

I second Fritz's statement (except for the having been there part).

However, in my case I'd accept an immigration sponsorship... I've got a friend just north of Sydney I could stay with.

However, the commute up from there would be a stretch, as it would be just about double what I do when visiting my parents. ;)

You both make me want to move to America

LOL. It's so great to see such enthusiasm.

Here in Australia, most RPG gaming is dominated by AD&D (unfortunately), it can be a real battle to get Traveller players together at times.

Please let me know if you guys are over this way for a holiday etc and we can all play Traveller together some day.

A vast majority of Traveller gaming seems to happen in the US, then the UK, then Europe, then Australia.

Any other players who don't have to commute from the US who would like to get into some Traveller gaming here in Brisbane??

Hello,

I am in Brisbane (Auchenflower, so fairly central) and am interested in playing Traveller. I have not played Traveller, or any other RPG for that matter, for nearly 15 years, but have just about everything for it! Always have been interested in playing though, and even have started a solo Traveller blog a few months ago due to mt Traveller obsession :)

I have two children, 4 and 6, and weekends are really out, so I can only manage nights. And only a night or two a month at that. I may not be the best candidate :(

Hi Shaun,
Terrific, glad to hear. I myself have most of the published works thanks to the excellent FFE CDROMs. Fear not, most of the folks I game with are in the same boat as yourself there. In a couple of weeks, I should be available to game nights if you'd like. There's stacks of adventures I've never played. We could game some 2 player games and perhaps there's one other person out there who also wouldn't mind gaming nights and were all set. :)

Look forward to hearing from you and if you have an adventure or two you've always wanted to referee or adventure in, I'm keen.

Are Traveller Players In Brisbane Australia a dying breed?

I'm most amazed. There has been 489 views of this post since it's original posting and only 5 responses.

This makes me wonder and speculate that most people here in Brisbane like to look at Traveller material and imagine playing it, perhaps reminisce more than actually play the game?

I guess most Traveller players like myself are of a certain generation and have a lot on there plates these days, but you'd think there would be time for small games at least. Comments anyone??

Don't be shy, anything is possible and if you have grand dreams of massive campaigns etc, then keep this in mind: 'It's better to have something small that can be done in small segments of time than nothing at all'.

Keep the dream alive down under fellow Travellers right here in Brisbane.

A good number of people (including some of the staff) read just about every thread... 5 replies? I probably count 6 of those views...

And I read the boards the same way before I became a moderator...

Understood. That's a further depressing thought, that perhaps half of the (not including my own view) 571 views do not count, making it perhaps 280 views by possibly interested players out there. However there has been more enthusiasm from overseas where I'm seriously believing I'll have to move to in order to get a good game of Traveller happening. :(

Then possibly less again for those like yourself that looked at the post a couple of times. I'll hold hope though, that this could mean there's still over 100 possible interested players out there who for one reason or another are worried about commitment or something? If so, fear not, it would still be great to hear from you and know your out there.

I was through Brisbane twice in May of 2002 going to and then returning from the Solomon Islands. I would love to return someday and spend some time there, so I could see more than the inside of the Brisbane Airport Terminal and a hotel room.

Teriffic.

Hello there,
Great to hear you have a Traveller idea that can be adapted to the online format. I know exactly how you feel. I tried to get a Blakes 7 RPG going online and that was simply a no go either.

I'd be glad to do some travelling with you. I recently received the new T5 book, which I'm enjoying(you would like it, it's kind of classic but with a LOT of new additions). The only things I havn't liked so far are the word 'Sophonts' which is just a made up word to use where it encompasses all beings in the galaxy but frankly I prefer aliens, which everyone knows well. Also it looks like T5 wants to accomodate the Mongoose idea to make the Vargr wolf men, as opposed to dog men like classic Traveller. Other than that it's really nice and there's now 13 different profession paths to choose from when rolling up characters.

I'll check out the link tomorrow.

Thanks for the invite and I hope we can get some adventure happening.

I was hoping for the majority of views

Logically if I was looking through posts on gamming in my local area, I wouldn't bother to look at posts in other countries as it wouldn't make any sense.

So yes I did hope that most of the viewers would actually be people in the local area as it would be of no use to anyone else who wanted to come along unless they were in the area at the time.

As some fellow Travellers have mentioned, the administrators etc check out all the posts at various times(very dedicated of you legendary people. Appreciated), so that accounts for possibly 10%, as for the others, well there seems to be about 35% international Travellers checking out the post for the heck of it, that would possibly leave 55% which are possibly the target audience. Then halve that as the same people possibly view the posts a couple of times and you have possibly 50 -100 possible Traveller players right here in Brisbane.

It's a growing universe anything is possible.

I'd be lucky to find that many players just in California. The number is much lower than that though when looking for players (not owners) of the game.

If you find 5 players in your town, that are available to play with you two or four times a month, I'd be impressed.

Wow 4 to 5 times a month

Your lucky Shonner.
That would be nice. Alas no we don't play that often but I would sure like to.

Surely there must be a lot more players around than what you mentioned there, especially in California???

2 to 4 times a month, never 5 though. Traveller players you can probably count on two hands in California. Not old farts that bought CT in the '70s and don't play Traveller. But people currently playing Traveller. Tabletop RPGs are not really big in California anyway compared to Wisconsin.

Maybe San Diego. There we're players when i lived there... Checkout rpg.meetups.com with the resurgence it might be possible again.
