Learn Traveller in Under 60 Seconds

I'm creating a new series of animated shorts to teach newcomers how to play and hopefully bring grognards into the current edition (so they can see it has the soul of Classic).

Anyway, here are the first two, with more to come. I hope you enjoy them.

Likes go a long way to helping the channel grow - so thanks in advance!

Is your character a former marine, navy, army, scout, civilian merchant, or something other?

Your character is described by the characteristics of strength, dexterity/agility, endurance/constitution, intelligence, education, and social standing, with 7 being average and a usual range of from 5 to 9 (a roll of two six sided dice)

Your character has skills (described as skill and a numerical leve) they learned during their service, and they have some equipment and money.

I will describe the scene, you tell me what your character is doing. If a situation requires it you may be asked to roll two six sided dice to generate a number from two to twelve, adding any relevant skill level and a bonus or penalty derived from the characteristic that is most suitable to the situation. If your total is equal to or greater than a target number that I decide applies (usually an eight or more) you succeed in what you were attempting to do.

If unsuccessful then you need to accept what I describe happens and then try something else.

Mongoose Traveller in 2ed is closer to MegaTraveller now than it is to classic.

Task system, task library, roll for every routine thing, no letter drives, there is only the Imperium worth detailing...

compare the in game sequence of jumping your refined fueled well maintained ship from Regina to wherever in MgT 2e, MT, and CT.

In CT there is no dice roll at all, in MT and MgT 2e there are pointless dice tasks.

Look at every adventure, supplement, and additional rule book for MgT2e - show me one that doesn't default to the Third Imperium setting.

Okay, you piqued my curiosity: why is this important to you?

I play a version of Traveller that has "the soul of Classic" already. :)
Totally get that — if you’ve already got the “soul of Classic” at your table, you’re set.

I’m just trying to bridge the gap for folks who might’ve skipped newer editions, thinking they’re totally different. Under the hood, it’s still the same Traveller spirit — just with some modern polish and tools.

Honestly, we are aging out (I just turned 57 last Friday), generally speaking. I think it's my responsibility as a grognard who has played every edition to use my experience to build excitement, create new players, and pass on my passion for Traveller to the next generation. And who better to do that than veteran players using the latest editions at their disposal?

That's just my humble opinion - YMMV
