Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
I came across a map in an article by Mike Mikesh in the Security Leaks fanzine. The article is "Beyond Charted Space". Anyways, the map shows a zoomed out view of the Local Arm including the full extent of all the local rifts. Is this map canonical?
Not as such, but pending further data it seems worth using. The travellermap site uses it if you zoom out, especially if you switch to a white background which emphasizes the rifts.
I like it because it reinforces that the Imperium really is the only place to easily cross the rift and is thus a metropolitan hub, which is one of the earliest descriptions of the setting.

Yes, AFAIK, and I think it has been more or less incorporated into T5 with its expanded galactic purview. 13Mann used to have a poster-map that showed it rather nicely as well (It was a Charted Space poster-map that had the local arm with the rifts and Gould-belt shown in the upper right corner of the poster, and the entire galaxy with the location of Charted Space marked in the upper left).
That Security Leak map is featured on the website for Clifford Linehan's Zhodani Core Expedition, which Linehan created in direct collaboration with Marc Miller, which probably further verifies its canonicity. Though, I'm not sure if the Security Leak map matches up completely with other published maps (I remember Jim Kundert saying it didn't completely match up with a map from a K'kree supplement).
That's not canon (yet). The Orion Rift and its vicinity were created by me (though the shape of the rift itself was from Security Leak). Thanks for the compliment!
To whulorigan:
Where did you see this map?
As far as I know the head of this map was inspired by the mentioned security leak magazine. It was more an artistic overview how big the galaxy is and how small the Third Imperium is in comparrision, that a scaled map.

IIRC, it was an image on the 13Mann website back when Liftoff! was still undergoing its unsuccessful crowdfunding. I wish the map had been published as an independent product, because I would buy it. I am fairly sure that it was based on the old Security Leak map.
(If it is legitimately for sale and I am unaware - please direct me to a link).
