In other threads we've got on to talking about the geopolitical basis of the 2300 setting, and people have raised some issues with it. I thought I'd start this thread to allow people to share their alternative 2300 settings.

In my own messing around with ideas for an alternative 2300 setting, I've usually gone with something like this:

French Arm in O2300U = American Arm, developed mainly by the Anglo-American nations, Europe, Japan, Azania, Brazil; this is a "vanilla" setting for players who want to be American Marines bashing Kafers.

Chinese Arm = Chinese Arm, with added participation from Argentina/Mexico and some more or less unwelcome Indian presence; Sino-Indian rivalry is a theme of the setting

American Arm = Indian Arm; the united Indians win the Tantalum War with Indonesia; India has also sponsored space programmes by some south-east Asian nations (some of whom are not necessarily real allies of India, and are more interested in balancing it off against China to preserve their own independence)

I'm also toying with the idea of a metaplot of covert Indian backing (possibly from rogue intelligence officers) for ProVolution's activities on the Chinese arm.

Comments on this welcome, or feel free to post your own homebrew.

For me, the exo-geopolitical milieu of 2300AD has been about the conflict between the colonies and the country of origin. As these are not nation states which exist but rather memes tranported among the stars. It allows me to take national characteristics/histories and speculate: "What If?". This I can put into play as a standalone or have them interact with other colonies reproducing some of the conditions that we have gone here on Earth.

Therefore, filling the 2300AD universe with all the intrigues and stereotypes from the past and transporting them into the future. I got inspired by Robinson's Red Mars...which then shows also the full development of a world by the end of the trilogy. The biggest problem that I have found is finding players who would buy into this conception of the future but I guess that is why Traveller is much easier to play.
