Is it another Milieu?

The more I hear of it the better I think I like it.
I have been trolling the T5 forum as of late and something still bugs me.

Is T5 going to be a new rules system to incorporate all of the other milieus?

Is it another Milieu? (I saw circa 200)

Am I just not seeing the right post?

Does Mr. Miller just not know yet?

It is not supposed to be an entirely new milieu.
It is supposed to be the rules to play any milieu.
Though, MWM does seem to think a good setting would be the early years of the 3I.

Fritz has the same idea I have. T5 has to be milieu independent, since Marc would like to support the entire gamut of milieux. Note that the "small craft" playtest allows designs up to TL20 or so; this ain't no Milieu Zero.

Kurega, I'm hoping the rules will be good enough for me to have a place for them. I'll never dump CT, but it would be cool if T5 can open up a larger gaming environment; for example, a combat system more complex than just "I shoot the bad guy". MT and T4 have helpful ideas to draw from.

Honesty that is what I am hoping for. Some kind of mechanic that is evolved from the original but still recognizable. We didn’t go with GURPS or T20 because of the association with other games that we had played in the past. All fine products to be sure but just not for us. Personally, as long as I can translate my CT stuff to T5 and the referee interface* is easy to use I am going to insist that we switch. I won’t judge a product before it is in its final form but so far it looks good.

* not sure if there is a proper term for this but it is when I can look at the rules, easily grasp the concepts and with a little explanation launch it.

We'll see. In the meantime, submit suggestions, brooding concerns, ebuillient enthusiasm, and playtest what's available when you get the urge.

"...brooding concerns..."

I try not to brood too much. Sullen and melancholic referees don’t do so well.

"Suggestions/questions submitted on the skills list - yet it lingers there like two-week-old bread."

As long as a “seduction” skill exists I am in good shape. Believe it or not sometimes a bottle of Champagne and soft candlelight can get more out of the Starport Authority shift supervisor than a plasma gun...

I’ll admit sometimes I might muse, other times reflect, and some days sit languidly imagining more plots for the players to mess up. Only on those dark days when the tempest of evil threatens to overthrow my very reason do I brood. When the slimy tentacle imbued horrors that lurk in jumpspace lash my soul, then do I brood.

[thunderclap, mysterious theme plays]

But I digress.

Hmmmm, no Seduction skill on my list. I figured that was a role-played thing. Of course, I have always had the characters use a "Charisma" attribute (not the Vargr stat, and renamed Appeal in MyT) for looks, savoire-faire, presence, etc. For, say, a Charisma-9 the player could choose what balance that was of smoothness, looks, etc. - so they could be a 12 in looks and presence, but less than average in smoothness (the kind of guy that takes a K'kree out for ribs on a first date, is always looking around saying "What?", etc.)

I would rather see seduction than a difference between Admin and bureaucrat...

Actually, I added seduction, Drop ops, and a Charisma att to MT, so obviously, *I* would like seduction to be left in.

Of course, seduction need not be sexual... "Seduction" is the use of the lure of some desired object to secure some desired behavior. This can be as "innocuous" as turning on the charm to get the guard to ignore your buddy breaking in, to using their own inherent greed to fleece the wealthy, and then their pride to keep them from reporting it, by having promised them better than normal ROI.

I guess (in one sense, at least) you could justify that as a skill. My romanticism wants me to keep saying that's more of an attribute, though.
(And, hence, should be role-played rather than roll-played.)

Sounds like seduction is along the continuum of persuasion. Maybe it needs a special spot along that continuum.

Diplomacy
Liaison
Intimidate
Persuade
"Lure"?

Better word choice, too, robject - it loses that instantly prurient connotation.
(Though I don't like Intimidate and Persuade either - for the same reasons mentioned for Seduction above.)

Player Val: "My Vargr tries to seduce yon marine."

Referee Rob: "OK..." he rolls a formidable task roll against the Vargr's Bamboozle skill, reminding himself to complain to Kurt yet again for pushing a silly task name into T5...
