Indi Gen Con 2007 Q&A

plop101

Absent Friend
Looking for anything that I don't know about Indi Gen Con. Especially anything I haven't seen on the web site, things to look out for, etc.

I know that the pre-registered passes are coming up here next month sometime. I don't know if I'm going to be their 4 days or only 2, but for sure I intend to be their for Friday and Saterday.

We'll be road triping it. Its a run we've done in the past, just not as long (usually had to go to Ohio).

Anything I need to know would be most appreciative.

Thanks in advance.....

The dates are August 16-19, 2007. You can get a 4 day pass for around $60 US. You'll need to pre-reg for events or get generic tickets for the actual events.
Check gencon.com for more information.

I suggest going for the 4 days. If you are going to be going, you might as well go for all 4 days given how far you are driving. I suggest arriving on Wednesday and then departing on Monday. You'll need that good night of sleep on Sunday.

You do want to register on the day that registration opens if you are keen to get the hotels that are connected to the convention center directly or into the Embassy Suites. If you are willing to walk a bit or are willing to drive from a hotel further out, you can wait.

Registration for events is usually in May.

I don't think that there were any Traveller events last year. There may be some this year since Ad Astra is distributing Power Projection in the US. You may also be able to talk Flynn into running Traveller games again.

Do you have any other specific questions?

Ron

Here's a great site on basic advice regarding Gen Con:
http://php.iupui.edu/~wrporter/

You'll find a lot of info here of the practical sort, from hotel recommendations to tips on packing your backpack.

Gen Con is a wonderful experience, and I highly encourage you to go. I've attending the last six, and this year will be my 7th. It's also Gen Con's 40th Anniversary, and that means there's likely to be a lot of swag and the like.

I'll likely be running Traveller games, seeing as how I will likely be doing demos for Avenger. More on that later, though.

If you're going to do it, especially if you are driving, do all four days. It's worth it. Trust me, it's worth it.

Also, I would recommend that you check out True Dungeon. It's a live-action dungeon experience, and I've not been disappointed yet in the quality of the riddles and challenges within. It's a lot of fun.

Hope This Helps,
Flynn

Thanks guys.

I have never been there, and I want to do that this year while I have the chance.

Thats one of the things I need to address. Walking long distances is not good for me right now. So I'll get that registration thing in Feb ASAP.

I've lurked in the AV site from time to time. Thats that Hero system thing, right? Now is you chance to sell me on it.

Okay, looks like I am going to be running some 1248 adventures at Gen Con this year to demo Avenger's 1248 product line.

Normally, I run evening games, but I wanted to check to see if there were other preferred time slots, such as mornings or afternoons. Anyone want to make any requests on time slots and schedules before I sign up later on this month to run these games?

Also, I normally run T20, but would consider other systems (such as CT), if I thought there'd be enough interest. Please let me know your thoughts on that, as well.

With Regards,
Flynn

It's on the other side of the country from me, so I doubt I will go.

However, the ONE thing that could convince me to spend several hundred dollars to spend (for convention tickets, hotel fees, and airplane travel) is if Marc Miller were to host some kind of "30th Anniversary Fanfest" for Traveller fandom, which would display some little bit of Traveller rennaissance there. Sure, I'd be tempted to attend that, even tho it might be an expensive vacation for me!

P.S. --- Doesn't MWM live in the same state? Indiana? Or somewhere in that region of the Midwest? I wonder if he would consider making an appearance for once in a long time, at least to rekindle a little bit of "Traveller resurgence" to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the game. This is alcohol-induced wishful thinking on my part, most likely.

I posted a message here and one on the TML about a 30th anniversary "panel." On the TML, I got two responses from members in Europe and one from LKW. The two members in Europe said they'd like to come but couldn't and Loren said he'd come but would need airfare and a hotel. I figured that the TML wouldn't response to me since I don't post much and am a relative 'newbie"

I was just floating the idea so to speak, but it seems there's not much call for such a thing. I don't have Mark Miller's contact info. I figured if there was going to be one someone else would actually 'run' it and contact him someone 'in the know' so to speak and I'd just attend as a game fan

The GenCon LLC person to contact about setting this up would be Jeanette. E-mail

OK. 2 Badges. Me and Mummy. Check!

An hour and 15 minutes to go on finding housing.

I hope this housing thing works out okay. I'm a little concerned about that. We can't do long walks but we can't do serious Pricey for rooms. Might be tricky.

Oh well. Good Luck, all.

My intension is to arrive midday Thursday and be all day Friday and Saturday. Bug out sometime Sunday morning. So anything Friday and Saturday is cool.

My skills:
Prefer CT, I'll say Average plus on CT
file_22.gif

TNE and T20 I'll say I'd be newbie on those
TNE maybe a little better (I understand the character generation ok, and I did try to build a rifle with FFS.
MT, GT, just Average.

This is only my second Con. Did a Sci-fi con in Phoenix way back in 1980 or 81. Haven't done any thing since. I want to do gen-con before I croke.

And the latest news...

The Hotel/Housing reservations computer is broke down, and has been for several hours.

I guess this is one way to play TNE. VIRUS arrived, and your computer is broke....

plop101,

I'd highly recommend you come in Wednesday instead of Thursday, as you'll miss the grand opening of the dealer's room on Thursday morning. However, I understand if that's what you have to do based on time constraints. I'm currenly looking at running CT (since TNE 1248 uses CT as its basis) and those games will be run in the afternoons.

Hope this helps,
Flynn

Well folks, I've been having fun getting a hotel reservation in yesterday and today.

AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Well, I did get one. The closest spot to the convention center is........WAIT FOR IT......

>>>>The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Brickyard Golf Resort & Inn<<<<

I think thats about 4 miles out from the convention center. HOOO BOY! And now, on to PARKING.

<plop goes exaserbated, or something like that>

I think now I'll be lucky to get in to the Convention Center by Thursday Mid-Day. Friday and Saturday I'm good for. Thursday is tricky because of trying to go from hotel to convention, whether to drive in and try to get parking, or cab'it, or what.

THE BIG QUESTION: What do I need to bring, or do I need to bring anything at all? CT Books, T20 Books, etc?

First time GenConer (funny how that rhymes with goner), will be signing up for your games Flynn. I would prefer CT rules, as they are quick and dirty and only requires that I carry one book. Hope to get in on some of the Cthulhu games and if AD&D 1e is there, count me in.

Mostly going to socialize and get a vacation from life, the universe and everything. Biggest thing is finding the right package of air+hotel. What is considered reasonable distance in Indiapolis to expect Public Transit to take you from point A to point B, but, I would actually prefer something closer to the site and downtown.

Look forward to seeing as many as the board there as possible, hell, it is our 30th Anniversary, we have to something big...other than get Marc drunk.

my wife and i are also 1st time gen conners this year. will there be a mixture of ct and t20 games being run flynn? or just ct. we just need to know what to pack

Every one wants to know what Books and stuff we need to bring. (?)

Does anyone know what the cost of a booth is? I'm an illustrator and I might want to sell some artwork. If they have an artist area.
