Anyone ever do the Olympics Traveller style? I know the Zhodani have the Psi Olympics covered, but this is for good old muscle power. I'm sure GravBall or ZeroG Ball would be in there. What else? What games would other species play? And who has a specialty game? Like China is known for Ping Pong, Germany for weightlifting (and steroids). Do they still play soccer 5700 years from now? I'd say it's probably only run every 10 years or so instead of every 4 years like now because of Jump distances. Maybe not.

I always have sports and sports teams in my games. I have sports teams, leagues, and every once and a while the guys will go into a bar and some game will be on TV.

In fact I ran one game where one of the players got wealthy enough to buy a team.

I've got:
Grav Ball (board game)
Hero Bowl (from movie Blood of Heroes - just not using a dog head)
Autoduel (car wars)
Grid Bowl (football, but heavier armor)
SpeedBall (from the old video game)
Racing (yes, ground car)

I resisted the urge to add pod-racing after SW EP1 came out.... didn't have to try very hard....

But, after I had a player buy a team I had to come up wtih rules on how to quickly determine what the standing was. It started with us actually playing Grav-Ball* or Car Wars. But I treated it more like the mass combat rules in Book 4.

* I pulled out my old copy of grav ball just a bit ago; was waxing nostalig for my memory of the game. Man, I was taken. The components are almost nil; the box was mostly air. Compared to the games you buy today, I mean sheesh.... production values man!

:-)

Why not some Fzero/Wipeout style grave sled racing? Minus weapons of course.

The logistics of a galaxy wide olympics though... staggering. Some of these athletes would have to leave home as childeren.

Very true.

But a group of planets in a subsector can have leagues and games.

Also brings new meaning to "pick up game"...

Subsector games every 5 years, with the sector games every 10. The Imperium-wide Games are held every 25 years.

All winners are shipped in "First-class Hibernation Chambers™" to the site of the next higher games, then thawed exactly 1 year before the competition to resume training.
