Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
A bit of Babylon 5 (dark politics, though not as high level as depicted in B5; also psionics and their presecution), a bit from Aliens (in starship aesthetics and the way corporations behave), a bit from Andromeda (the universe has gone to hell in a civil war; besides, Becca Valentine and the Marrow [sp?] are quite the Traveller "hapless free-trader" archetype), and alot from Kim Stanely Robinson's Mars Trilogy (politics, hard-science low-tech and besides its a perfect description of a TL8 domed-colony world).
And besides, Natalia Myron, one of the most prominent political figures in my (virusless) post-Hard-Times setting (no longer TNE), has a bit of Babylon 5's Delenn (my favorite character from that show, btw) as her partial inspiration. She was also inspired by Nadia from Kim Stanely Robinson's Mars Trilogy. She's someone who has her beliefs and the way she thinks things should be done, and she sticks to it no matter the personal cost or the consequences. She is not evil; she does what needs to be done, be that gentle or violent (remember Delenn and the "End This" on the Drakhs? Or how she had no problem going into the Starfire for what she stood for?).

Now that this thread has been resurrected does anyone know of any good SF literature (other than the original Foundation novels) to describe an Empire in an advanced state of decay to inspire my MT campaign. Most of the SF, out there usually deal with mature or starting out Empires. Really looking forward to reading something like Foundation & Empire but haven't found it.
