If you were to place MegaTraveller into some sort of referant for the uninitiated Traveller player. Would you describe YTU for the MegaTraveller milieu as:

1. Bablyon 5
2. Classic Star Trek minus the movies
3. Classic Star Trek movies
4. Space Above and Beyond
5. Star Wars, first trilogy
6. Star Wars, second trilogy
7. Dune novels
8. Dune prequel novels
9. Douglas Adams Hitchikker's
10. Something other (fill in the blank) _________

It varies a bit by campaign.

My last two TU's were ones more like B5 - involving nobles, politics, movers and shakers. In one, the Solomani were 'the big evil'. In the other one, it was a Megacorp headed by one of the players.

The current two games I'm running, one is working its way towards a combination of adventure, diplomacy, and intrigue - a little bit of futuristic MI-5 with a bit of an 1889 Colonial feel. The second one is a more classic merchanter campaign, perhaps Firefly but with a bit less Wild West. More Rim Runners or C.J. Cherryh's Merchanters.

All I know is that the next campaign I run (regardless of rules system or timeline) is going to be heavily influenced by Cowboy Bebop. After watching that show I've finally figured out how to run a fun TRAVELLER campaign. All of my previous attempts have bored me to tears but at least my players found them fun!

Oh yeah... Coboy Bebop! Now that would be a fun milieu to play in. Barely competent bounty hunters with a high tolerance for pain, destruction, and starvation pay, each with a different agency or crime syndicate out to get them. A ramshackle starship, and a personal ship's boat for each. Souped-up and always breaking down. Yes, you're so right. There are so many good ideas there!

Funny how properly tuned chaos can add so much enjoyment.

B5 with a touch of Cowboy Bebop thrown in for good measure.

One of the things I plan on borrowing heavily from B5 (aside from look and feel) is the idea that dark ,dark things are going on just beneath the surface of what you can see.

Sort of like...

Babylon 5 technology and paranoia, Dune politics, and the swashbuckling of Star Wars (IV and V).
