I need a deck plan...

sid6.7

SOC-13
oh yes another person wanting someone
to do the work for them....

i need a classic traveller ship done for me
its a 500 ton trader....i have a really bad sketch
of the ship and need someone to make a floor
plan to match...if you can draw a 3D of the
ship that would be cool but not required...

problem...i keep having folks say sure
then they abandon me after 2 months...

anyone?

Hey again ;) Now then, let's see, how about a description or better yet the full design workup and your sketch if you can scan it in. Don't worry about how bad you imagine it, as long as it shows what you're after. I'm no artist either, more a doodler and technical drafter so I for one won't laugh.

The notes you have might inspire, or someone might know a deckplan already done that will work.

For example, a fine set of deckplans for a 500ton merchant from T20 which might fit your CT needs can be found here:

Peter's Deckplans

(the Reliant class down the page a bit)

I've just built a design for T20 (still in the process of polishing). Liner rather then hauler though. 500 dTon, so that's in the right range.

Interest me enough and I'll be happy to whip up some plans.

Looks like this:
liner-small.jpg

I don't know if variable axis thruster plates are canon. I think they are cool enough to exist IMTU.

thanks for the quick replys

mine is a CT ship 500 ton

its a trampfrieghter shaped like a box
it will have 1 freight BOT and 1 multipurpose
BOT and 1 human...

here is the hasty sketch i put together
dont give up on me from the bad sketch
i'm not much of an artist unless it comes to
world maps...then im good...

slab.gif

jump 3 prefered jump 2 is okay
2-3 staterooms, 1 galley, 2-3 low berths
normal equipment rooms, 1 air raft area
in cargo bay...then whatever else we can
slide into it...

i made it like a slab to make it look primitive
like as if it was one of the oldest ships around
the exterior can look rusty or beat up to give
it that feeling..

the back end of your T20 kinda looks square
like mine!...wow..

Well the details are a bit vague and I have some serious engineering issues with your proposed layout. At least in the RealWorld(tm), in a game it depends on how far you can wave your hands ;)

When you say CT do you mean Book 2 or, seeing as it's a 500ton hull, did you mean Book 5?

The idea of the whole side wall of the cargo bay opening up is interesting and I see lots of potential uses, but it makes the thing very weak structurally and would be a nightmare to make work.

Likewise the split down the middle for cargo and engineering. It would make flying the thing a chore to say the least. You'd always be having to slew your thrust to go straight, a little bit when properly loaded and a lot when empty. This puts even more stress on an already compromised structure.

I do like your putting the bridge at the rear and limiting it to a single mixed turret. The first isn't done enough even when it would make sense and the second is very reasonable for a minimal crew merchant.

Ah, the crewing, another point

At first I said, whoa, 1 sophont? For a 500ton ship the rules are going to require at least a crew of 5-6 (Pilot, Nav, Med, and 2-3 Engineers). It could be doable with bots in YTU or by bending the rules.

Anyway, I'm still not coming up with anything to fit your sketch partly due to the above issues. That could be the reason others also had trouble getting something for you. Or maybe your request just hasn't hit the right person yet

okay...i do understand the need for realism...

but someone should be able to draw this with
no problems correct?, i'll explain the
sceince and crew aspects IMTU, but it should
not be a problem drawing this yes?

specifics?

2 decks as shown above with command room
bubble(3rd level?) or same level as 2...

1. yes book 2 says 400 or 600 but i wanted
to put it at 500.. per book 2...(it's part of storyline)

2. type F drive which should give me jump 2
that would make for jump/manuver/power on the drawing..maybe also something showing the
attitude jets? on the sides or bottom? or
a small room labeled such?

3. 1 bridge with appropriate rooms nav/computer
fire control..etc..
computer model 3....5/9

predict 1
target
launch
jump 2
navigation
generate
man/ev 2
auto evade
manuver thats 12 slots out of 14?

4. staterooms 3, 1 galley, 2 heads, 1 small crew area? anything else i miss?

5. low berths 4

6. fuel tank reuqired 100 but i will go 125 tons

7. 1 triple turret laser/missle/sand
pulse lazer... 4 missles & 2 canisters sand

8. air streamed(as if a box would be....)

9 1 very small small life boat...

total tonnage used 260,total left for cargo 230
give or take a few tons?

yes i'll have to stretch things abit, but its workable... ;)

anyone pertty please with sugar on top?

Biggest problem I see (after I second Far Trader's concern about balance and loading) is porportion. 500 tons is 1000 deck squares. At two decks high that will make the ship about 20x60x7 meters high. This is more Ipod shaped than brick shaped.

But it will not be streamlined so it can't have fuel scoops. Sorry. And the lifeboat ... what did you have in mind? And what kind of vehicle are we accomodating in that 20' high bay?

It is not very satisfying to work on someone elses design, especially one with ... peculiarities. I may give it a shot tommorow, but If you want to try it yourself, it ain't hard. Use square ruled paper at 1.5 m/square, 2 squares per dton.

okay....

so i take it it would be 500 squares per deck?

how many squares per sheet of paper?

so could we do 32 square by 15-16 square?
roughly on paper? that would look more
like a brick otherwise i guess
22 x 22 would be good?

the veh. bay part was to be just
something to accomodate any
eventuality....but also
just a style type thing...

i'm trying to make it look like
a junkie slap together OLD
tramp freighter ship...something
of an anomolie...

i do want it to be odd...

i'm horrible at doing drawings like this
thats why i am asking for help...

i'll also bend the rules to force
it to be streamlined IMTU...
as alot of traveller ports
are dirtside it would really
need to be SL...

really folks dont worry about the science
in RPG land we can do anything... ;)

whats ipod mean? i've never heard that before...

thanks for doing this if you do it...

what your house like? Do get a lot snow in the winter? Can you afford cedar? Do want to barbque on it?
I need more info.

Well, see how this strikes you. Running my own numbers for your ship I got some slightly different totals. In the design process I came up with this being a conversion of an old 250ton courier. The original courier model was capable of J3 and M3 with a total of 42tons for priority cargo. Eventually it was sold on and at some point an extra 250tons of hull was grafted on to bump up the cargo capacity by some 235tons, but lowering performance to J2 and M2, and making the thing extremely hard to handle (-2 on all piloting and evade checks I'd say). I have included my own programming suggestion as well.

Here are the quick rough scans mentioned in the post above (apologies for the size, the thumbs show nothing and the full image loads quick anyway):

1 - Upper deck, bridge tower, and profile:

ctship15qn.jpg

Showing:

Upper deck (clockwise from top left): the turret; vehicle bay (original courier cargo hold, dashed line for hatch); two airlocks (one exterior, one to cargo hold was originally exterior); 4 low berths; accomodations (2 lockers, galley, 3 staterooms, common room) with access to the bridge tower and lower deck; upper level of the main cargo hold open to the lower deck below except for the ledge at the front. Note the common area and stateroom 3 have viewports in the sloped area to the aft. The unmarked areas are fuel.

Profile shows some interior layout.

Bridge tower includes 4 of the 5 workstations and the computer (wrap around), the whole area is 360deg view.

2 - Lower deck and sketch:

ctship24zl.jpg

Showing:

Lower deck (clockwise from top left): the fuel scoops; the jump drive; the power plants (p/s); around the access and work station; the maneuver drive; and the lower level of the main cargo hold. Note the manual hatches beside the jump drive, one to the exterior and one to the main cargo hold that was originally exterior. The unmarked areas are fuel.

In the sketch the full side door (open) to the main cargo hold, the seam joining the two hulls, the fuel scoop, the turret, the vehicle bay hatch and the bridge tower.

SOLD!

will that be imperial? zhondani? or vargr
currencies?

GO GO GO !

love the profile...

just so i am understanding it okay...
the lifeboat pops out the top bay thing?

and that is a walkway around the top edge of the cargo area?

thats a good design for what i want IMTU!

oh is there away to show thoose cheesy U bar type landing gear in the profile? my intention was that
they be maybe 4 feet tall....so it would give that
ramp a slight slope for loading-unloading...

they would also prevent the attitude jets
"underneath" from getting stuffed with
muck "hopefully" if they land in icky stuff...

a GRATEFUL sid6.7

We deal exclusively in Imperials but can get you a fair exchange on any Zho or Vargy currency

Correct, the old cargo area is accessed via the top hatch, very handy for vehicles or small craft up to 40tons. A perfect place for your lifeboat to reside until needed, nice and handy to get into.

I wanted to do a walkway but it didn't happen. The space you see is actually fuel runs (I should have shaded the fuel areas). It might be possible to make an upper level walkway at the expense of cargo hold volume.

I'm pleased it fits what you're after.

Rather than U-bars I thought just simple skid plates for better load spread (dang, forgot to draw them on the profile). If you land in muck with U-bars they'll likely just sink in up to the hull.

I figure attitude control is handled one of three ways; small contra-gravity node thrusters (no moving parts, or jet nozzels to clog), manipulation of the maneuver drive itself in off axis thrust, or a high speed gyroscope in the ship's center of mass. The last is only really useful in ships that don't have large changes in c of m, but in those ships you can literally spin on a pin.

I'm not too sure the sketch is properly scaled in perspective, I suspect it should be thinner (shorter) but I did it first as a concept and then did the deckplans and actual volume. Take it with a grain of salt is all I'm saying

thats cool...lets do that then, skid plates instead of u-bars and we could sacrifice what 20 tons? for walkway? 1 square wide? runs the length and accross the ends? or down to the cargo floor on an end?

this is cool...can't wait for the final version!

thanks man...i appreciate it...this has been a
4-5 month wait for me...LOL total real time....

Go Dan!

Here's some thoughts. The ship seems to be in two distinct halves, so why not, instead of having it perfectly symmetrical down the long axis, make the cargo half a different shape and feel to the passenger/drives half?

Wouldn't it be cool if the cargo area was a cylinder inside a cylinder, so that instead of the wall folding down, the outer cylinder rotated to reveal the cargo bay doors.

What if the cargo area was detacheable and held in place by big honking claws?

I love where the bridge is. Yay! It's not at the front! (I have a new 3D model in progress at the mo (300 ton Catfish Class) that has the bridge in a similar position, but detached by a neck)

Here's a thought: What if the two halves were completely seperate and the bridge sat astride them, joining the two together - catamaran style?

For the landing skids, what if they were on the outer, bottom edge of each half and each half rotated slightly upon landing in order to extend those edges and create a clearence under the craft?

More wacky ravings if they come to me.

I wish I could, but I'm afraid not.
My current projects include:

A hover-mule in the style of an old frontier wagon with two crew for the Serenity rpg (personal project).
The aforementioned 300 ton medium trader. Another 100 ton scout/courier, this time a sort of cross between the Gunship from Nausicaa and the Jedi Interceptor from Sith.
More Traveller paper miniatures.
Firefly/Serenity paper miniatures.
Finishing off - and making deckplans for - all the ships I've already modelled.

And all this during my lunchbreaks!

Sigh!

You never know, perhaps Andrew will do it
