Most desert towns are better 'way back when'. In some ways, Tucson seems to be on that cusp of 'cool town trying to resist turning into VanillaVille, USA'.
The above should not be taken to mean I don't like vanilla. Far from it. Still my fave.
can you 'splain what your travcode in your sig means? if its a seekrit, I can take it to a PM...
Sure. I've just revised them, so they're fresh.
If you want the entire shebang, it's here:

IMTU tc+ t5++ 3i(+) au ls+
"IMTU" describe the general preferences for my Traveller games.
tc+ means I like Classic Traveller.
t5++ means I'm totally into what Traveller 5 is doing.
3i(+) means I'm in line with what the canonical 3rd Imperium is like, and I may tend to make it a little strongarmed at times.
au refers to starship automation, which is experimental IMTU.
ls+ means life support is expensive and difficult to work on, hence the canonical weekly service fee for l-s at a starport is meaningful.
OTU is the "holy war" variant of the IMTU code in beta, which focuses entirely on issues which seem to have deep implications in the Official Traveller Universe (OTU) and have a history of strong opinions and sometimes heated discussions.
OTU 44% an+ dt+ ge- j- jf+ n- pi+ pp+ tr+ tv- uwp+ xb+
44% I have a strong opinion on 44% of the Holy War issues. I think that makes me Opinionated.
an+ The ANNIC NOVA is canonical.
dt+ Droptanks are integral to the OTU.
ge- Playability always trumps realism.
j- Jump drives are powered directly by the power plant.
jf+ All jump fuel is burned before jump.
n- Naval budgets are small.
pi+ Piracy must exist.
pp+ Power plants must be fuel inefficient, as the rules indicate.
tr+ The basic trade systems work fine.
tv- Interstellar taffic volume is low.
uwp+ Mainworld generation works fine.
xb+ I love the XBoat route.
