I hate mapping

I completely co-miserate! It's easy to do an adequate job of making a map but making the leap to something you'd be proud to show your gaming group is beyond my meager artistic and computer capabilities.

We should start a support group; Friends of GMs who can't map or some such nonsense.
 
Of course, one man's 'adequate' is another man's 'wow!'

A map is a tool to do a job. If your map tells the players where they are and provides the local information they need, it's adequate IMO. It doesn't have to compete with Pixar studios.

What aspect of mapping do you guys find to be a problem?
 
Thanks for the suggestion. Usually, it comes from a particular idea. That I will need something eg. lunar mine, space station, etc. and then finding the time to draw it to scale and fill it with interesting encounters.

I have tried the different software packages but as I do not have a printer and really again it comes back to time...which I would usually like to think of the outlines of a scenario and map those out to a flowchart.

So, these days, my refereeing style is fly-by-the-seat of one's and player's pants & loose outlines that could be combined with a published adventure (although, not entirely following how the publisher has scripted it).
 
I cheated in my latest game using "Keep on the Boarderlands" for my 1st adventure.The local Merchants Guild asked for help in rescuing a member,his wife & body guards captured & held for ransom by a group of bandits(Mix of Human,Vargr & Aslan) hold up in the caves northeast of the Keep.The players were offered reduced rates on cargos taxes & tariffs,a years free membership & reduced docking & fueling fees.(They caught the thinly veiled "suggestion" of what would happen if they didn't help.).I'm using the "City/State of the Invincble Overlord" maps as the port city/planetary capital.And I'm looking over a few maps from Star Frontiers/Knight Hawks,Champions,Star Wars & a couple other games for maps.
