Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
Indeed. It means it's going to take quite a while to jump away from such stars, if you can at all.
Our group was never big on astronautics, so when we jumped we figured it took so many hours to get to the right distance to do so safely. With a star this size, you're going to be putzing around in space for quite a while, and I'm not sure the rules address this situation (though maybe it has on this BBS).
There's a system in the Marches, whose name always escapes me, which is exactly like this. The stellar jump limit is weeks away from the mainworld, so far in fact that normal starships wouldn't have enough power plant fuel to make the trip and spend a week in jump.
Whip, I recall stumbling one of those "caveats" in one of the books somewhere that read "If you jump into this system... *yadda yadda yadda*", but promptly ignored it as flavor text.
I was just about to post question regarding exactly this, and thought I'd better search the forums first. I decided I'd generate system details for Hefry, next door to the Spinward Marches. It's a TL 7 vacuum world with a Scout Base and a K6 II star - making it a Super Giant. My thinking in developing a background for it was that the vaccuum world was in the outer zone, far enough from the star so the base would be outside this giant star's 100 diameters. But I didn't know where to find this measurement - and it was in Book 6 all the time. Thanks.
I then thought, well given it's a scout base right next to the subsector capital (Regina), why's it there. How about it's monitoring a cautiously-contacted minor race on the world in the habitable zone. Two worlds for adventure for the price of one system!
