Howto: Inline Images from the Gallery

How to get your gallery image inline in your posts.

1) upload the image to the gallery.

2) on the gallery page...

2.1) right-click on the photo.
2.2) in the popup menu, choose Copy Image Location or Copy Image URL

3) in your post, type [img]
3.1) immediately paste the url you copied in 2 right after that
3.2) type [/img]
3.3) it should look like the example 1 below

4) Optional: Link to the image page
4.1) On the image's page in the gallery, copy the URL from the URL line of your browser.
4.2) in your message, before the [img] tag, type [url=
4.3) paste the URL you copied right after the = (equal sign)
4.4) close the tag with ]
4.5) after the [/img] tag, type [/url]
4.6) Example 2 shows the same image as example 1

If you instead want just a thumbnail, for step 2, instead of the main image on the page, use the small image in the filmstrip. Example 3 is a linked thumbnail.

A medium size is available; in the URL from the thumbnail, replace small with medium. Example 4 shows this.

Recommendation: if the image is bigger than about 600 pixels across, use medium or large. This prevents making the text unreadable on smaller screens, as there's about 50 pixels lost to the sides.

Aramis, is there a way to upload an image to the site so it can be used for an inline image but not be visible in the gallery?

I have some small images I want to put in some posts but I don't think they'd be of any interest in the gallery.

Not without mod privileges, AFAIK.

Yuo can inline stuff hosted on 3rd party sites using [img][/img] tags, but that often is a problem.

Major B, I've never had a problem using images uploaded to Photobucket.com on this site. Photobucket even gives you an option to copy the img code they provide.

Seconded on photobucket. Haven't had a problem yet. I do it that way so I don't have to upload stuff twice.

Thanks all of you. I don't know if I want to go with photobucket because it is blocked from the computers I'm stuck using most often here. But alternative sites will probably be blocked too so with your recommendations I'll give it a shot.
