How to pick a random world hex?

Book 3 page 48
Select a world hex in a triangle.

Can someone please explain this to me.
This has got to be the most confusing charts I’ve seen.
It says to roll 1D to determine A B or C then 2D
Nothing makes sense. Am I rolling D66?
Does abc equate to 12 34 56 or ?

I've been visiting those pages lately because I've wanted to do some world mapping. Let's see if I can unravel it a bit.

Hmm, ok well I like the chart "Select A Triangle On The World Map", which to me greatly resembles a D66 table. So I'd roll D66 and reroll if it's greater than 4 5.

It makes sense that it's a D66 table too, since one should have an equal chance of hitting any triangle.

OK that's the rules as written as I read them.

But, when I'm mapping, I have two goals:

(1) produce an over-arching "as seen from orbit" world map
(2) focus on one triangle to drill down

And I think I already know what sort of triangle I want -- I want the middle one if I'm anywhere near the tropics, for example. So I don't feel the need to roll for it normally.

First, roll 1D to select corner A, B, or C.

Second, roll 2D (read as as D66) and consult the chart, starting from the corner you selected in the first step. Reroll if that value does is not defined for that corner.
