How reliable is FFE?

So, did some good business recently and I've decided to reward myself with a copy of the Classic Traveller Supplements big floppy book. Searching around the best price point seems to be from FFE.

Question is, have any of you ordered from them? Are they reliable? Did things ship in a timely manner? Bonus points if you live not in the US and got something from them (as I live in Hungary, this is an issue).

Thanks all!

I've found them reliable and timely. Takes awhile for the express hamsters to swim out here to New Zealand, but it still gets here in reasonable time.

It's what I'm hoping. Placed my order a bit ago. With luck, it'll be here before my next business trip (not this Friday but next Friday). It'd be perfect for the 3 hour train ride.

Crappy website design. But I've ordered from there several times without any problems. For example, if you use the '443' deal you don't get the discount at POS but as a refund within 24hr. And everything's arrived fine each time. So I'd happily order from there again.

Ffe ftw!

I agree about the sub-par site-design, but in terms of service FFE (run by Mr. Miller and Co.) are courteous and ship efficiently. In the interest of full disclosure I live only a few hundred miles away from their location. They have always been a pleasure to do business with.:)

I would even agree about the site design, but you do realize Marc does it himself...

And remember, if something does go wrong with your FFE order, PM me here and I'll get Marc's attention, or e-mail him directly.

Thanks for that DonM! I'll let you know. I sent the order off some hours ago only, so I imagine it'll be a day or two before it's sent off, and I hope, only a week before it gets into my grubby paws. SOOOO looking forward to this...I'll have TWO floppy books to cart around soon (I've already got 0-8)

Marc Miller will give you his phone number to deal with him in person if something goes wrong.

Highly Recommend FFE

1) I got my CDs in a reasonable time frame, given they had to navigate Canadian Customs which is a source of much misery and delay at times. Marc threw in some neat bookmarks and postcards with my order. And signed one of my reprints as well. He's one of the few folks (well, he and most of GDW) whose signatures I'd actually want on a book.

2) One of the CDs was (rather hilariously) absolutely blank. Nothing had been burned onto it. (OOPS!) (maybe the session didn't close off correctly)

3) In remedy of 3, Marc allowed me to download the CD from him over broadband. I didn't even have to wait to be shipped another one (I can burn my own).

Marc Miller is a class act. FFE is a class act, although it is a small business.

Well I ordered a CD 31st October and it arrived today, so that's roughly two weeks (about normal from the US).

Mind you, my LSVTP saw it first, so it is now wrapped and I won't actually get it till christmas :(

You are basically ordering from Marc W Miller, the author himself, and he does pride himself on keeping the customers satisfied.

That said, it approaches a major US holiday, and the "Christmas shopping and shipping" season has begun so just normal stuff may take longer. Enjoy your BFBs!

Aye, though you're down in Christchurch, so, I imagine, that's a bit harder to ship to than Hungary. ;)

PS - What's LSVTP? Google only shows an amphibious vehicle...wouldn't that make your order come sooner? :)

Well, it's why I wanted to do it now, so, I'm hoping it gets here before next week really, bypassing all of that neatly. It only took me a few hours to decide to do it (after checking and seeing that, yes, ordering direct from MWM was the best bet).

And yes, I will enjoy my BFBs! I actually don't mind the format myself, and anyway, that's two weird shape books to tote around for a game, not 22 separate booklets. Easier that way methinks.

LSVTP? Long Suffering Very Tolerant Partner (AKA Megan) She decided that the CT CD will make an excellent present, so.... said CD is now lovingly wrapped and awaiting me to put the tree up.

Ah, I see. Well, what can you do? In any case, at least you'll eventually have it! Me, I gotta cross fingers and see...

(tl;dr summary: FFE is reputable and responsive. Do not hesitate to deal with them.)

I can't speak for foreign orders; remember that your own national post office will be handling final delivery, and that Customs/Border Control/Import Office will undoubtedly be involved as well, and adjust your expectations accordingly.

That said, I have ordered from FFE several times, and only had to follow up on one of those orders - and when I did query it, a duplicate order was sent out almost instantaneously, no questions asked, which I received in short order. If all mail-order or web commerce worked as well as FFE does, I doubt very much that it would have the somewhat smudged reputation that it does.

I've only dealt with Marc once but it was a great experience and anything I want Traveller wise will come from FFE.

Leitz
