SOC-13
it happens all the time - characters or npcs trying to escape persuit / catch their quarry .
here's what i do -
if , for example , the chase is taking place in atvs , both drivers make a roll on their atv skill with all relevant mods (fatigue , terrain they are driving on etc) . then the ammount each roll was made/missed by is taken and compared and the distance between persuer/ persued reduced or increased accordingly .
eg :
base roll is 8 , one driver has skill of 3 , is driving on offroad terrain which has a mod of -1 . target is thus 6 (8-3+1) . say he rolls a 9 , he has a "gain" of 3
the other driver is atv 2 and on the road (no mod) , but is fatigued (-1) so has a target of 7
. say he rolls a 9 too . he has a gain of 2 . thus the first atv pulls away just a little .
for people running i use strength for very short ditance , an average of strength and endurance for medium and endurance alone for long distance . this is affected by encumberance etc . the characteristic forms the base roll .
anyone else come up with similar (or different) solutions for this ?
