OK, scifi-ers, what do we make of this?! (Here's a picture of the mostrosity that caused this.)

Is this a fluke (mainly of measuring equipment)? Is it a successful fusion experiment? A jump grid in the making (notice it is a grid of wires!)? (Of course, tungsten is heavier than lanthanum, so this couldn't be a direct connection to jump drives... ;) )

I certainly hope they have up OSHA posters saying something like 45 Days without an incident leading to the vaporization of Earth's Atmosphere. And this one. Or, this one, though it should go up to 5 for Health Hazard Level: "Could wipe out all life on the planet".

Yeah, ain't it great?!

Lab Assistant: "Sir, you really ought to see this."

Head Researcher: "What?"

LA: "Well, we seem to have started a small sun in the laboratory, and we really don't know how."

HR: "Should I evacuate the building, or is it not that serious, yet?"

Those guys at Sandia are hard core. I had occassion to attend a school there in the 80's.

Your Tax Dollars at Work.

Go fusion!
