Hiver ships / robotic crew

Hi !

While messing around with Hiver ship designs, I am looking for some existing rules to substitute regular crew by "wired" crew.

Do I really have to use LBB:Robots to clone crew positions, or has perhaps anyone made his own houserules for that ?

Regards,

TE

Yep, you have to use Bk8 - or choose a design from 101 Robots ;)

A quick house rule for a robotic crew is to calculate the crew required as normal and pay for the stateroom cost in MCr, but not install the staterooms.
This gives a robotic ship with a skill level of 1 in all ship functions/skills.
Pay for the staterooms again and you get a skill level of 2, and again for a 3, and again for a 4, which is the maximum starting skill level.

Hehehe…Just build non mobile robot brains. Throw a few mobile repair drones in then a few of those Six-Eyes-Nest warbots and you are good to go.

For space: Just use their displacement to the nearest half ton. Throw in a few repair workshops and BAM! Robot ship.

Hmmmmm…I am gonna have to do this.

I use 0.5 Td per robot workstation, at a cost of MCr0.5 each, including the non-removeable robot. Real crew to robots must be at least 1:(TL-6) IMTU So at TL 8, 1 crewman of every 3 must be a genuine person, a 1:2 ratio. YMMV, and probably should.

I figure most of that space is manipulator space.

By far the largest crew requirement is for gunners. I have a house rule that allows 1 gunner per battery provided the ships computer is at least size 9 and at least 1 size bigger than minimum requirements (big ships will just have to get 2 computers). No robots, but greater automation.

In High Guard you only need one gunner per turret battery, two gunners per bay weapon, and one per 100-tons of spinal mount.

Well b****r me, you're right. All this time I've ben duplicating a rule that already existed and no-one ever pulled me up over it!! (Goes back to the drawing board in shame)

I..ron, that just stresses the quality of the rule

Anyway, thanks for the input so far.
I just got a copy of Flynns "Robots of charted space" book from the Avenger site. It looks just fine and I guess it serves well for this purpose, too.

Besides, using TL16 computer hardware in this case seems to allow a considerable reduction of basic crew requirements with the MT ruleset.
