High Guard 1st edition

Vladika

SOC-14 1K
What would a 1979, High Guard 1st edition, in very good condition be worth today? To either a player or collector?

What's the cover price?

Or pretty much what ever a collector will pay, as the information is readily available on the CT CD.

Cover was somewhere around $5 to $7 range. Core box was between $12 and $15.

Many players will pay $5 to $10 for dead tree.

I wasn't aware '79 HG1 was on the CD? I'm a dead tree sort of guy.

It's on the newer version; the 1st version didn't have it.

New version CD has both the 77 core and 80' HG as well as the 81 core and HG.

I've had several Classic Traveller LBBS listed on my wife's eBay store and not many buyers if any browsers at all.

Did sell a pretty roughed-up boxed set though, the box was rough, the books as near-mint as such comes, just chanced to have an interested buyer find the listing.

Good luck Vladika with your sale of such !

Thanks, but this one I'm not selling. I chanced to pick it up in a boxed set with books 4 & 5 added in. All 1st additions, though not known at the time. I was very surprised on discovering that. My old battered copy has served well and for reference will continue to do so.

A dead tree HG1 first edition is, or at least has been, hard to find so I just wondered about value. I'm very glad it's been added into the new CD!:)

PS would you PM me the info on your wife's store?

I think I paid around $15 for my beat-up copy. Even for a high-quality copy I'd not pay more. But, I'm not a collector.

Is it on the CT CD-ROM?

That's the rumor anyway. I thought Marc was pretty much burying HG1 forever but aramis is sure it's been added to the CT CD-ROM. I hope he's right. If for no other reason than it's historic place in Traveller.

I can confirm that both HG1 and HG2 are definitely on the CT CDROM, along with the 1977 and 1981 versions of the LBBs.
(The current version of the CT CDROM that is, not the 1st version).

Absolutely not buried, I knew that much. There are interesting and potentially salvageable rules in there. And apparently now on the CDs. Woo hoo!

Marc sent me the updated CD for Christmas.:)

Long ago, I rebuilt HG1 from scratch, as a proof of concept. That's the version on the CD.

I had this silly notion that we could redo the entire CT line.

Don, I don't think your notion was silly at at. Through God only knows how many iterations of Traveller, past present and future, (Many, Most, All) contradictory, carrying CT forward seemed/seems a pretty good idea.

For all my bitching and moaning about T5, there is MUCH in it that DOES carry CT forward (some even logically;)).

Crew Accommodations & "Ganging" Drives are righteous!

I think he meant rebuild the texts' typesetting, not the content. I was wondering why the HG1 file was such a crisp text, compared to the scanned versions of the other files.

I usually keep a pristine copy of each LBB, plus a bashed-up reading copy for play (and the bound reprints).

The only one I haven't been able to find is 2nd edition High Guard because every listing seems to be for 1st edition (and some don't specifiy, but are invariably 1st edn).

Sounds like you are looking at eBay seller "Noble Knight". They ALWAYS list every book 5 as a 1st edition and they nearly NEVER are. Usually, when I've tried to buy what they claimed was a 1st edition it was really a 2nd. They use a "stock photo" and verbiage.

I have an extra copy of 2nd edition High Guard. PM me with any offer/request.
