I have two IPod mod 6 - Which Apple has told me are obsolete and they have no interest in supporting. However, they were happy to sell me an "upgrade" device to cover that function. Which they will abandon in the next five years.

I also have an Original IPad which can't be upgraded, due to its electronic design, beyond Finder Ver 5.
When it attempts to connect to the Apple store, their software tests the Finder level.
Rather than routing devices running Finder 5 or less to a legacy application store, they simply block me and tell me to buy one of their newer products.

I've even spoken to their support people and a friend of mine who works fairly high up in their design divisions.

Their attitude is, "We don't care if it still works. We will force you to buy new"
I've only encountered hostile a sales initiative once before, and that is Games Workshop and their "we decided you can't use this anymore, buy a whole new army" attitude.

So, I am still using my working relic devices but have plans to shift them to Non-Apple products when the relics fail
And, I am not purchasing anything from Apple ever again
