GURPS Traveller Deckplans Scale

I just bought the GURPS Traveller Beowolf ship plans. One question, what kind of bizarre scale are they using???

The sheet of cardboard heroes that came with it are 25mm scale but the deckplans look to be at least twice that. What's the point of making deckplans if they are not usefull. This is the first, and last, set of plans I will buy from SJG.

The scale is one hex is one yard -- almost but not quite twice that of the miniature figures. This is standard GURPS combat scale: one yard hexes, drawn on a one-inch grid).

This was brought up when they were first published, but SJ had already decided how they would look.

Well i'll be. I measured them and your right. They have 1" hexes on one side and 1.5" inch squares on the other.
Funny thing is I have been playing GURPS for about 15 years and never noticed this problem. My group has always assumed, and used, a half inch hex battlemat, which works fine for miniatures. For shipboard we sometimes use 15mm minis and half inch = 1.5 meters grid.

One inch = 1 yard? I see no point in that at all. (Almost as bad as the old D&D 1" = 10' with 25mm minis.) I guess you could use 54mm miniatures and that would look about right. My main complaint is that 1.5" = 1 yard makes the deckplans far to big to be usefull.
