GURPS Anyone?

I see hunter has "punished" my "sacreligiousness" (or is that sacreligion?) and put up this new, GURPS Traveller Forum where I must "remain forever in banishment." Thanks, hunter!

Yes, thanks Hunter

Umm, what do we do now....?

I thought the first order of business was to start finding things in GT that would work for T20, and discuss them... ;)

Actually this isn't the punishment. Look on any of your posts just under your avatar image...

Well, I just ordered the four GURPS Alien books, so I hope the answer is "pretty well".

Nah, just a new title to go with your sacreligious nature ;)

Ooops! I managed to edit your post instead of replying to it! Sorry about that!

Well, hallelujah, it's about time.

Though this isn't going to stop me frequenting JTAS

Nor me. But it is a lot easier to read and make posts to this forum IMHO.
Still, I think as Flynn said, we should try to concentrate on discussing using GT material with T20.

Nor should it! If I thought having this forum would hurt JTAS membership I wouldn't have opened it.

I don't wanna open up a big separate thread, but I am interested - I've thought about joining JTAS. What is it that makes this forum easier to read/post to? (Or conversely, what do you find makes it harder at JTAS?). I just ask because I may one day want to join and forewarned is forearmed. (Well, I *want* to join all these types of things... lets say one day it may be a feasible option)

I joined JTAS for access to the articles. I have found the forums difficult to navigate e.g. you can only see one reply at a time and there is a lot of going backwards and forwards with browser pages which all takes too much time for my limited attention span.

Sample issues here.

I'm not sure what's wrong with the web interface for their discussion boards, because it drove me off in five minutes. But they sit on an nntp server which you can access with a newsreader like FreeAgent or whatever. I now do so, and get threaded messages with killfiles etc.

What makes JTAS attractive IMO is that they (a) regularly publish articles (which means they regularly pay people who write them. The rate is $0.03 a word, maximum of 5000 words). I know QLI do this too, but their article publication rate is rather irregular, and I also can't find any info on this website that tells you how to submit and how much you get for it.

IMO the discussion boards have IMO much more signal to noise than the CotI boards and have more focussed discussion. The flame war rate is lower than on CotI, though we did just have a nasty one recently (economics is always a bad topic for such things!), but that was unusual.

The web interface can be problematic, but frankly the thing is primarily an NNTP board (like usenet) so the best way to use it is to use an NNTP viewer like Free Agent - I've not had any problems using that.

I think it's well worth subscribing. For only $20 for 2 years (a mere 3 cents a day), you get 52 issues of JTAS plus access to the boards and GURPS Traveller playtests, plus a few of the Pyramid boards too.

I agree that QLI's submission information is pretty well hidden. Here is the submission process page. The page includes format guidelines, how to submit, and payment schedules except for CotI articles (2000 words, $50, if memory serves).

Yeah, that's for books and TAs though. Do they not have separate info for CotI articles? Something along the lines of the Writing for JTAS page at SJG, just for CotI articles?

Though JTAS still wins out in terms of article size and payment - CotI seems to charge 2.5 cents a word compared to JTAS' 3 cents a word, and you can submit longer articles to JTAS - both of which means you can get more money as author and can potentially submit more detailed articles to JTAS (I've had two JTAS articles published, and both were 4000-5000 words).

Though having said that, a lot of JTAS articles are less than 2000 words, so it only makes a real difference for longer articles.

I joined JTAS a while ago. I think it as another set of resources available to a ref. And that's my main interest.

Its health for the traveller universe to have alternative viewed magazines and articles. Unfortunately, they seem to stay pretty clear of the D20 world.

I recently picked up the Gurps Dragon deckplans. It does seem to mention use for D20...a good thing.

Has anyone tried integrating any of the non-deckplan Gurps items into their D20 campaigns?

If you mean non-deckplan GT articles and such into a T20 campaign, yes. Off the top of my head some of items in the ship's locker articles, bits from the Starports and Modular Cutter books and I use the GT Core book and Ground Forces as reference books.

As for general d20 content SJG tried a d20 zine for a bit and Pyramid has had several d20 articles. And there's always their Munchkin books.
