We’ll be running a death-match style game where sophonts fight for glory in the ruins of Grokatomi Plaza.

It’s a holiday spectacular where the only thing more dangerous than the vacuum of space is a man in a dirty undershirt with nothing to lose.

That sounds a bit like the 1984 Strontium Dog story "The Killing" [2000 AD Progs 350-359; reprinted in Strontium Dog: Agency File 02 (no longer in print and not available as digital) and Strontium Dog: Search and Destroy 4 available in print or as digital)].

The premise of the story is that the two main characters - a pair of bounty hunters - enter a fight to the death tournament which is part of a religious festival, knowing that most of their opponents will be carrying "dead or alive" bounties.
