It seems like Interstellar Wars has now been pushed toward an October release. Grr.

Let's just hope that it will be for all the extra goodies to be thrown in, like the Alien Races of that Milieu and maybe an alternate First Contact scenario for the Aslan and Zhodani.

I wonder how much input Marc is having into the game? As one of T5 proposed sourcebooks is pre-Contact Terra. The prospect of a renewed Space Race with presumbly China and a reconstituted USSR (if Marc's article on Luna) is any guide would be most interesting...

I trust that Jon is doing a great job but have fears that it may turn out like a board game like Imperium but just played out on a RPG. Playtesters, say it ain't so...

From what I hear, it's got a lot of good things in it, such as a simplified or condensed version of FT's T&C system, and FI's world gen system. It seems an effort has been made to take the best of GT and integrate it into this one book.

Is that a correct assessment, playtesters?

That was my take on it--

But of course... keep in mind we only saw a draft. No tellin' what might have gotten cut/added at the last minute!

I am not in the slightest bit surprised. SJG has a very bad habit of making unrealistic targets to aim for, and as a result ends up frustrating people by not sticking to its schedules. Look at the June 13th Illuminator on the SJG website.

This is par for the course for SJG.

Probably not. It's probably, as I said, more because the release date was unrealistic in the first place.

Keep in mind that production bottlenecks also hold things up too. About half the Transhuman Space line was fully written and playtested, but it took 12-18 months for those books to come out after that process had been completed.

From what I understand, Marc has no direct input on the GT line at all. I don't even know if he looks anything over, but he certainly hasn't had any noticeable effect on the line.

When I was on JTAS, and they had the general IW discussion board (before anything was playtested, this was just us talking about what to do in the game) I seemed to get the impression that Jon was sticking to how Imperium worked quite closely. I don't know if that changed for the actual playtest (which was after I left JTAS), but I really did not like the idea of yet another new game being constrained by some crusty old wargame. Damn canon. :(

Esepcially canon that has little or no bearing whatsoever on the game itself.

From the actual playtest, it would appear that Jon used Imperium as one source of inspiration, but was perfectly willing to discard it where that caused problems.

Please, guys... wait for it to come out before complaining about it.

;)

You might be surprised. It might give you things to complain about that you never even thought of!!

:D

Hey, Hey, Hey my only complaint was that it was going to be late and the possibility that it will not be as comprehensive as Milieu 0...which it has to cover alot of history (read: Vilani Imperium has to be flushed out along with beginnings of First Contact with many later Familiar Aliens).

Once it comes out I expect the same killer quality that has been making the ground shake at my FLGS as the popularity of new edition GURPS is causing heads to turn.

That's cool, kafka-- I was just messin'.

No offense taken. I think some of us old timers fall into two catagories: a) those who really want to see a great product for Interstellar Wars b) those who don't care and grumble all the time. I fall into the first catagory but not part of the playtest and hope that those that are making sure all voices are heard.

I'm just now discovering GURPS Traveller. I know, what took me so long?

If Flynn is right and I sure hope so, then IW will be really outstanding.

P.S. On my most recent visit to the SJG website, IW was still scheduled to be released in September. Plus, today 6/30, they asked for playtesters for Bio-Tech.

Marc approves everything, text and artwork. He recently approved the IW final manuscript, which is the last stage before the book goes to the printer.

But does he actually do anything other than look it over and approve it? Has he ever actually made corrections or suggested additions or that some things be removed?

Maybe it shows how good the GT line is if he doesn't feel he has to do that. But I know we had to do some changes to canon in the Sword Worlds books (we fiddled with a few star types and planets) and I don't think the authors heard any complaints about that. Or does that sort of thing go under his radar?

Thanks for the update!

Could someone convince Loren to get on the Board and hopefully some answers and more importantly teasers can be released to create general mayhem.

Ok, it was my understanding that Loren was still line editor. Then perhaps Jon or maybe even Evil Stevie lurks somewhere around here. Surely, it cannot now be months away due some sort of printer foul-up. Otherwise, it is indeed G-R-R-RUPS.

You'd be amazed at how long production bottlenecks can be... (think of Transhuman Space. What was that, 18 months between end of the "In The Well" playtest and release of book?)
