36 plots for Firefly (or Traveller, as the case may be ;) ), written by SteveD from rpgnet... based on Elton John songs.

I like these. I like these a lot. The format is good too. Makes for a fun thought exercise too.

Fun link, reminds me of my younger days when a tried to make a Traveller adventure centred around Beethoven's 10 symphonies. Researched what was the time period around his composition possible inspiration and plugged in a Traveller adventure. Mind you, many of my players were music buffs at that time therefore, they really enjoyed it.

One of the best write-themselves adventure methods evar was incorporated into Dark Conspiracy. Very simple, it went like this: get a copy of the wackiest aliens-ate-my-baby tabloid you can find, and assume the stories are actually true.

I saw this conceit used in the movie Constantine, and I assume that came from the Hellblazer comic as well.

Not really suitable for Traveller, but a fun idea...

Reminds me of an RPGA D&D module that is based on the song "Bennie and the Jets." Knowing the words to the song will give you clues to the plot.

DAMN! Could have done with this three weeks ago. I'm just finishing up GMing an admittedly weak Firefly game with my group. They seem to be enjoying themselves but, man! Am I rusty as a GM.

Crow

I like how he's structured the stories too. Really lends itself to roleplaying.

And what makes it unsuitable for Traveller, Quiet Mapper? Have you seen the threads related to Call of Cthulu and vampires in TU? Not my cup of tea, but definitely Traveller!

Well.., there was that idea I had for a TNE/Dark Conspiracy crossover campaign. The Black Curtain takes on a whole new meaning, hehe...

I had a good read through of these last night. It's a really neat idea, and they'd be great scripted episodes, or they might add a bit of colour as a sub plot in another storyline but most of them didn't strike me as gaming material per se.

Crow

I considered trying it myself with the songs of David Bowie.

Haven't started yet. Maybe it'd make a good group exercise....hmmm

It would be Crow, IMO a good writing exercise for one thing, and might even inspire others to try it as a quick formulae for sidebar adventures off the main plot line of whatever it is they're running at the time..or writing mini-episodes for their campigns..

Just tossing suggestions into the ring... ;)

I did suggest that SteveD come up with a season 2 based on the hits on the Beatles '1' CD, but he wasn't having any of it ;) .

But yeah, it's cool how inspiration can come from interesting places like this.

I was thinking more along the lines of using the tunes of the Rolling Stones myself... ;)

Certainly a viable method for sketching out an adventure series for your band of players (pun intended) and mayhap easier than saying:

The ref's information:
Possible outcomes: A-F.

ya think? Might even be as SteveD says--fun to do as well!

I actually did this for a D&D campaign a few years back when my turn to ref came up. It was epic adventure style, a story in 9 parts (plus prologue and epilogue) using the titles of various Rolling Stones songs as the titles (and inspiration) for each chapter. It started as I was playing the CDs in the background while brainstorming how to torment them. Bonus XPs were going to the first player to recognize the commonality
Sadly our group broke up before I got to run it :( I wonder if those notes are still around??

Sounds about right to me ;)

Before this thread I just thought I was a lone looney for doing it

Well, I'll be keeping my eyes open for them now as I tidy up the mess, not sure they'd suit Traveller though

I dont' why I didn't remember this earlier, but several years a ago a good friend of mine ran an entire D&D mini-campaign based off the Blue Oyster Cult album Imaginos.
